Vaulting Weight
Re: Vaulting Weight
I've heard that Jonathan Edwards (best triple jumper of all time) weighed only 160lbs but could power clean 160kg (352lbs). Freak much?

Do we have another case of urban legend like Bubka's 10.2 100m and 8.20 long jump?

and download article "The elastic strength development of Jonathan Edwards" . You will find inside some numbers from Jonathan's 1992-1995 seasons like 132kg clean and 82.5kg hang snatch.

Re: Vaulting Weight
In relation to vaulting weight, I had a question for anyone.
I am 5'5" and I weigh 167 lbs.
I am actually in the throwing group of my track and field section, but I expressed interest in pole vaulting, and my throwing coach told me that it was possible to do that as well.
I thought I was too heavy to do it because my sister has a very low B.M.I. and her coach told her she was a perfect candidate for vaulting.
Is it ridiculous to try vaulting or am I too heavy?
what should someone my height weigh in order to pole vault?

No, it's not ridiculous. Your height to weight ratio is only one consideration of many.
But if you're short, heavy AND slow AND lack gymastic strength/ability AND lack courage, AND lack perseverance, THEN you have a problem.
The best way to know for sure is to just give it a try, and see if you like it. If it's fun enough for you to STICK WITH IT, then you'll succeed - at whatever level you define "success". You set the bar - no one else.
Think of it this way ...
As a running back, you're not going to get recruited by an NCAA school ... or make it to the NFL ... but you just might get picked up by a small college, and get drafted into the CFL (Canadian Football League)!
Ditto with pole vaulters.
Not that you'll ever become a pro, but you may do well at the HS level.
Not bad if you're also having fun and staying fit by vaulting!

sad face. My computer will not let me download it. I will try tomorrow at school or something when I am supposed to be productive.

The download didn't work for me either. Try this:
- click on "Issues 1986 - 2001 High Resolution"
- search for the article
- select the check box to the right of the article
- in the drop down menu "Actions" select "email"
- enter your information and send it to yourself
