One other thing.... i have a theory that all this started from wearing skateboard shoes with no insoles, because that was the cool thing to do when skateboarding. I was also training my toes to point outward, as is necessary when doing any sort of skateboard trick that involves an ollie. This dropped my ankles inward and left me with terrible posture when walking or running! Then when i joined track, i ran the EXACT same way with toes out to the side and ankles dropping in. I eventually fixed my toes but my ankles kept dropping in until just a month or two ago.

Moral of the story, DONT SKATEBOARD unless you are prepared to have shin splints when you start running again :P.

i skate and have been for about 2 years, and i have not gotten shin splints. also wear skate shoes everyday , unless i am working out or jumping

I bet your ankles dont go inward and your toes dont point outward when you run though. If so, its just a matter of time till something goes wrong below the knees injury-wise. And of course i was just joking.... the answer to shin splints is not to stop skateboarding, just make sure it doesnt affect your ability to run mechanically well.
