next pole?

My son is mushing out his 14'155 pole. We borrowed a 14' 165 flex 17.7 at a meet yesterday and he cleared 15' holding at 13'6"(at the pink band) Standards at 24". I think he is ready for a 14'6 pole but what weight/flex? Or should I buy a pole like the one we borrowed? He PR'ed 12" on it. Any suggestions?

So youre saying that he was pretty much holding at the top of the pole below the label? How does that grip compare to his 14'155?

He was also holding at the top of the 14' 155. The grip was the same. The sad part is that I had just bought the 14' 155 10 days ago. So I want to get him on a new pole that he can use for awhile. The 14' 165 was the perfect pole for yesterday but what about next week or next month. A 14'6" pole would give him the option of raising his grip, right?

Jonathan weighs 140. They weighed the kids at the meet yesterday. Both poles that he used yesterday were USC Spirit.

a 14-7 160 spirit should be very simular to the 14-165 but will allow for a little more grip...

13-6 grip and 15' vault is pretty efficent...

where were the standards with the 14-165? 60cm?70cm?

yeah I'd definatly go with a 14'6" in that case, and I'd look into getting one probably just a hair too big for him right now, like a 14'6" 165 just to be safe.

once he starts inching his grip up he should be on bigger and longer poles anyway, so a 165 won't bee too small for a while at least.

We moved the standards from 31" to 24" when we switched from the 155 to the 165 pole. It worked out perfect.

Here's the kicker, we won a free Essex pole in the raffle. What size should we get? Would a 15' 160 be to big of a jump in pole size?
When he outgrows the 14' 165 what will be the best pole size for him?

when buying pole sizes, especially if you are unsure of comparisons between brands, you may want to call the company to make sure you get the proper size. Of course you want to make sure that the person that advises you is an expert.

Actually, I think that the head honcho at Essx posts here sometimes, He might know what size is the next step with their poles.

I second the "look into getting one probably just a hair too big for him right now" comment although i'm no authority on these matters.

I know that we need to go up in length. So the next pole should be a 14'7" pole. Next question, carbon or not? Is carbon worth an extra $100 on a 14'7" pole?
