grip is slipping

Unread postby asniff » Sat Apr 21, 2007 9:43 pm

Hi i am a high school vaulter who started bending the pole this season, its been great until inujred myself, but i'm backnow. the problem is now instead of holding onto the pole i slip down it. I am holding it as hard as a i can, i think it might have to do with where my arms are at takeoff. i used to bend the pole a lot, now i start to but then i slip. So i guess i'm wondering, 1. what are the causes for the grip to slip, and 2. where should my arms be at takeooff

redo the tape on the pole and your arms should be about hip distance apart ( hold the pole by your hips and just get them a little wider than you hips)

#1: You need to drive your hands up at takeoff.

#2: Jump up at takeoff. If you don't do this, it makes it much more difficult to hold on.

Good luck!
