Roundup: Richland boys, girls sweep Fran Rish meet

The Richland boys and girls swept a four-team nonleague meet at Fran Rish Stadium with Hanford, Kamiakin and Pasco.

Richland's Colton Casillas (200, 400 meters) and Jonathan Miller (long, triple jumps) were double-winners on the boys side along with Kamiakin's Scottie Duclos, who swept the hurdles races. Richland's Kayla McKeirnan (200, 400) was the lone double-winner in the girls meet.

In the girls meet, Southridge freshman Chelsea Bourque won the 100, 100 hurdles and triple jump, while Kennewick's McKenzie Johnson won the high jump and javelin.

Roundup: Hanford's Brockman shines at relay meet

Hanford senior Keefe Brockman was named Boys Outstanding Athlete at Saturday's Southridge Relays after posting the best marks in the long, triple and high jumps.

Brockman jumped 19 feet, 5 inches in the long jump, 40-9 in the triple and 6-4 in the high, leading the Falcons to victory in the long and high jumps. Hanford won five events in the boys competition, best among area schools in the five-team meet and second to Mead's seven.

Southridge's Kasey McNeill won the girls 100 meters and 300 low hurdles and led the Suns to victory in the long jump with the best mark of the day (15-9).

EPHRATA -- Richland repeated as boys and girls team champions at the Ray Cross Invite, with Tyler Noland winning the boys 800 and 1,600 and junior Jonathan Miller improving on his area-best in the triple jump by jumping 44-5 1/2. Annie McDonald was Richland's only individual winner in the girls meet, taking the 800 in an area-best 2:23.9.

Othello junior Courtney Kirkwood won the girls 100 hurdles, long jump and javelin, while teammate Allison Walker posted area-bests in the triple jump (36-6 3/4) and high jump (5-5). Connell senior Coriann Wood won the shot in an area-best 37-8 1/2.

Cowden captures a pair

STEVENSON ---- Led by Bryce Cowden, who won a pair of individual events and helped the Woodland boys to a relay victory, the Beavers took first place while the Woodland girls grabbed second place here Thursday at a five-team meet.

Boys' team scores were: Woodland (110 points), Stevenson (84), Vancouver Christian (73), Castle Rock (56) and White Salmon (35).

For Woodland, Cowden won the 100 (12.39) and 200 (24.51). He also teamed up with Jordan Shaw, Scott Friedrichsen and Quincy Guy to win the 400 relay (46.1).

Other individual winners for the Beavers were Friedrichsen in the 110 hurdles (16.6), Marcus Watts in the pole vault (10-0) and Guy in the long jump (19-4).

CR's winners were Skyler Spaulding in the shot put (44-8), Tyler Eccles in the 800 (2:19.46), Josiah Smith in the javelin (142-6) and the 1600 relay team of Jon Byerly, Jed Lomer, Ian Hancock and Eccles (3:58.2).

Stevenson won the girls' side with 158 team points, followed by Woodland (99), Castle Rock (47), White Salmon (35) and Vancouver Christian (19).

Sammi Sturdivan was a double-winner for the Beavers, claiming the 100 in 13.66 and 200 in 27.96. Mackenzie Ripp placed first in the javelin (97-3) and Cassie Koering won the discus (91-11 1/2).

Winners for the Rockets were Dara Rule in the 3200 (14.23) and Emily Damschen in the shot put (32-8).
