Hey, I'm not a coach, but this is what I think.

First, I agree with you about the drive knee, but also should try swinging his trail leg. The first thing he does after taking off is curling his drive knee in.

Also he's blocking out, meaning he's putting to much pressure on the pole with his bottom arm. If you notice, at the end of his jump his bottom arm is completely straight. This is preventing him from getting his hips above his head. His bottom arm should collapse in order to let his hips rise above his head. Unless his bottom arm collapses, he won't ever be able to swing his hips above his head and invert.

Finally, it looks like he's blowing through that pole. He should try and get on a heavier pole.

But anyway, remember I'm not a coach, or even that experienced of a vaulter, so take my words lightly, unless someone else confirms them.

Snow 26

Snow 26's issues are primarilly related to pole speed. He is blowing through the pole because he is fairly fast. This can be remedied by a combination of things. A meatier pole and a higher grip. Alternatively, in a fix he can also slow down (best achieved by reducing the aproach by two steps); however the latter is obviosly not the best solution.

I disagree that he is blocking out. He simply can't swing if there is no resistance to swing from. Once the pole speed ( the time it takes for the top of the pole to reach 90 degrees to the ground) slows down, he will be able to do more with the vault and his body can swing into a rocked back position.

Good luck! :D

I'm not sure if they're all the same person. I just watched one of the video's, its Luke's 10' jump. Some things to think about:
First off, there has to be the emphasis on the 'free takeoff' yes it is hard, but if you do drills to try and practice it you might not get a free takeoff but you will get the timing better.
The takeoff is very late which is why he swings right into the pole. He is not actually swinging, but having a late takeoff, his foot is quite far under it top hand making him lack the first pendulum per say. If he can get his takeoff back further and work on making it early and tall, his left arm will have a better chance at loading the pole and there will be a c from his top hand to his trail leg. That is when he will actually be able to rock back.
His run looks alright, it is hard to tell from the video if he is running fast but it seems like it. My suggestion is to get the takeoff better and the rest will follow. Hope that helps.
