Kitchens busts record

Kelso was gracious enough of a host to at least let Fort Vancouver leave town winning one event in a Greater St. Helens 3A League track and field meet Thursday at Joe Stewart Track.

The Hilanders (134-10 winners) swept every event while the Lassies (129-20 winners) took all but one as Kelso dusted the Trappers in a sweep.

Kara Kitchens set a Kelso school record in the pole vault with a mark of 9 feet, 9 inches. Kitchens was an individual double-winner, also claiming the 300 hurdles in 55.22 seconds.

Other individual double-winners for the Lassies were Veronica Mendoza in the 400 (1:03.51) and 800 (2:36.6), Emma Destromp in the 100 (13.66) and long jump (14-2 1/2), Kayla Davis in the high jump (4-10) and triple jump (30-11), and Amber Miles in the shot put (32-11) and discus (95-0).

Adriann Dahl (5:47.5 in the 1600), Aly Wilson (12:51 in the 3200), Aubrey Hallett (17.91 in the 110 hurdles) and Jill Karnofski (112-10 in the javelin) each finished first for Kelso.

Winning relay teams for the Lassies were Destromp, Jill Radcliffe, Lana Nyman and Andraya McCulley in the 400 (54.96), Hallett, Jennifer Wyatt, McCulley and Nyman in the 800 (1:56.9), and Mendoza, Cassy Teig, Dahl and Kelly Swanson in the 1600 (4:48.9).

Spencer Peck was a double-winner for the Hilanders, claiming the 110 hurdles in 16.44 and the 300 hurdles in 43.44, both personal records.

Other winners for the Scots were Junel Cervantes in the 100 (11.23), Matt Montesano in the 200 (23.43), Omar Zurita in the 400 (54.41), Nick Jones in the 800 (2:02.9), Faisal Abdullahi with a PR in the 1600 (4:20.5), Bryce Davis in the 3200, Tanner Davis in the high jump (5 -10), Riley Davis in the triple jump with a PR of 42-0, Dylan Gaudette in the long jump (20-11), Jordan Wishard in the pole vault with a PR 12-6, Braden Keller in the javelin with a PR of 168-11, Darry Rupe in the discus (133-4 1/2) and Cody Clark in the shot put (48-10).

Winning relay teams were Montesano, Jones, Zurita and Trent Crossland in the 1600 (3:37.6), and Gaudette, Wishard, Tanner Davis and Montesano in the 400 (44.8).

Following spring break, Kelso will battle for the league title on April 10 at Camas.

"That meet will definitely test our kids and we're looking forward to that showdown," Kelso coach Joe Krieder said.

DeLapp, Schnebly shine

TENINO ---- Toutle Lake's Jeran DeLapp won three events and Taylor Schnebly won twice as the Toutle Lake boys finished second at a six-team track meet on Thursday.

DeLapp won the 100 (11.3 seconds), 200 (23.7) and 400 (53.7), and Schnebly was tops in the long jump (19-5 1/2) and triple jump (39-3 1/2). The Ducks also won the 400 relay in 45.4.
