Kamiak shows its prowess
The Knights' boys and girls win in a three-team Wesco South meet.

Herald staff

EVERETT - The Kamiak Knights did everything they could to prove that they are the team to beat in the Wesco South.

The Knights won both the boys and girls track and field meets Thursday, posting nearly identical point totals at a meet held at Everett Memorial Stadium

Kamiak scored a 99 on the boys side and a 96 on the girls side in defeating Jackson and Lynnwood in the three-team meet.

"They separated themselves as the Wesco favorite for the South title," Jackson head coach Eric Hruschka said.

"Both teams (boys and girls) are really mirror images. Very complete, very competitive in every area."

On the boys side, Kamiak, led by Kyle Cho's wins in the long jump and triple jump, swept the field events.

Colin Logue (200- and 400-meter runs) and Sean Bucy (shot put and javelin) also won two events for the Knights.

Jackson freshman Mitchell Briggs celebrated his 15th birthday with a win in the 3,200.

"Our distance kids ran really well," said Hruschka, whose boys finished 1-2-3 in the 1,600 and 3,200.

Ali Al-Hussaini finished first in both hurdle events for Jackson.

On the girls side, Julia Church led Kamiak with wins in the long jump and 200 and the Knights swept all three relays.

Chanel Sam won the 100 and the high jump for the Timberwolves.
