Walla Walla Valley Academy's Opara wins 100 in Clarkston

CLARKSTON -- Chinoso Opara won the 100 in a 12.6 seconds and Nnaemeke Opara took the 200 in 24.7 seconds to lead Walla Walla Valley Academy at a meet in Clarkston.

Everett boys, Snohomish girls win

EVERETT - Wesco North track was off and running Wednesday, perhaps more competitively than people previously predicted.

The Everett boys (69 points) and Snohomish girls (79) ended up taking team honors in a three-team meet also involving Cascade at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Here are some of the highlights of the meet.

On the girls side, Snohomish standout Kara Sporrong, a University of Georgia signee, took first in the 3,200 meters (11 minutes, 17 seconds) and 800 meters (2:32.0).

Cascade's three-sport athlete Katie Gross (soccer and basketball) won the 100-meter hurdles (16.1) and 300-hurdles (52.6) to help the Bruins (54 points) place second. Everett (38) took third.

For the boys, Everett's J Hopkins won the 110-meter hurdles (15.7) and 300-meter hurdles (40.89), while teammate Axel Stanovsky took first in the 1,600-meter race (4:38.2) and the 800 meters (2:02.5) to lead Everett to the team victory.

Cascade's Derek Sepe won the 100 meters (11.4 seconds) and 200 (23.2), helping the Bruins (55) secure second place. Snohomish (54) took first in the 1,600-meter relay and finished third overall.

Kaylee Kimell led the Tomahawks with a 15-second victory in the 1,600 meters.

Track teams start on the right foot
Cramer and Howk place first in three jumping events
While the Camas and Washougal track and field teams got more than they could handle Thursday, a handful of Panthers and Papermakers turned in strong performances at their respective events.

Robert Cramer placed first in the high jump, long jump (22 feet, 3 inches) and triple jump (40-10); and Antonio Sherman won the 100 (11.4 seconds) and the 200-meter dashes (23.6), but it would not be enough as Heritage beat the Camas boys 84-61 Thursday at Camas High School. Shane Geiger also won the 3,200 for the Papermakers (9:34.2), Michael Lauritzen placed first in the 110 hurdles (17.0), and Daniel Thompson took first in the pole vault (14-0).

Washougal senior Jameson Howk also swept the jumping events (high jump â€â€

Track and field

Seattle Christian

The Warriors took third in a four-team girls meet Thursday, scoring 30 points behind the 104.5 of Fife and 70 of Orting but ahead of the 28.5 of Cascade Christian.

SCS was fourth on the boys side with 20 points behind the 106.5 of Fife, 73 of Orting and 46.5 of Cascade Christian.

Amundsen won the boys long jump at 17-11 and Busick took the girls javelin at 93.6. Lundeman won the triple jump of 31-3 1/2 and Harris the 1,600 in 6:20.1.

Foster

The Bulldogs won a four-team boys meet Thursday, scoring 113 points ahead of the 55 of Charles Wright, 37 of Chimacum and 24 of Life Christian.

The girls results were not available.

Cruisers host first invitational track meet

Thursday, March 15th, Eatonville hosted the first invitational track meet of the season. Five high schools participated: Steilacoom, Vashon, Rainier,Washington and Eatonville. Eatonville had a large turnout of athletes and placed in the following events: Eatonville's first place finishes Boys: 100m B. Tugend 11.85, 1600m S. Andrasik 4'44.84, 200m B. Tugend 33.81, 3200m S. Andrasik 10'32.95, Shot put M. Wells 41'7", Discus M. Wells 122'7", Girls: 100H J. Samora 16.18, 300IH J. Samora 49.02.

The next track meet will be held at Foster High School, Thursday, March 22.
