Don't think the rip is from chalk. When I broke my pole I had the same skin pop open across the groove between my thumb and index finger and I wasn't using chalk. Coach told me it was the vibration from the pole. I think supposedly 5 times the force of hitting a 90 mile per hour baseball? I can't remember.

yeah it was just somethign i was curious about. yesterday a guy here at VT broke apole with chalk, no cut or anything.. it was just a theory. :P
