Nationals questions--opening heights, etc???

Unread postby mjaubbs40 » Tue Feb 20, 2007 9:39 am

Anyone know starting heights at NSIC at the Armory? How many vaulters go on to finals? Or what is the finals qualifying height?

Well lets see, last year the starting height was 13 because i remember having to start higher than i had before, and i only jumped 13'. The number of vaulters going to finals usually depends on how many are skipping pre-lims and how high the vaulters in pre-lims are going. Last year i believe about 8 vaulters jumped 13'6, and they were allowed to go to finals because that totaled about 15-20 jumpers in finals. I believe the finals qualifying hieght is 15', but you can call the number on the website and find out for sure. Im trying to figure out a way to get there, so i hope to see you there!!

I can't locate my start lists for 2006, but I did find the girls start lists for 2005. I'm sure the same heights and same advancement criteria was used in 2006.

for 2005: the starting height for the qualifier was 2.94m with subsequent heights of 3.09, 3.24, 3.39 and 3.49m.
Anyone clearing 3.49m or in the top 12 or the top 5 US advance to the finals which was held the following day.

There were automatics to the finals, those were the top 5 US. Opening height for the finals was 10cm lower than the qualifing height of 3.49, so that would mean 3.39m.

Sixteen girl jumpers advanced to the finals that year

The 2007 information you are seeking should be posted on their web site in the coming weeks, so check there every so often.

My educated guess is a starting height for the boys will be 10cm lower than the standard, so I'd guess around 4.04m with andvancement to the finals if clearing 4.59m
DISCLAIMER... this is my guess for the boys, not the actuals.

Hopefully those that have been there can help answer some questions I have...

Do they allow you to store poles there overnight if an athlete makes the final or do they have to take them back to the hotel?

How tough is it to drop the pole off if you are driving up there and staying in NJ?

Thanks, I'm sure I'll have more as this is the first time I've taken an athlete to the Armory.

You can leave your poles there overnight. Your only issue will be parking at the Armory. Sometimes you can find a space and other times it is impossible.
