What happened to Walkers 6.00?

Unread postby trex » Sat Dec 23, 2006 1:06 pm

Hooker’s rise to the top has been dramatic, taking his best from 5.45m in 2003 to 5.65m in 2004, 5.87m in 2005 and 5.96m, the world’s best jump this year.

Was it a PV only meet? I don't know but if so, those are usually listed as exhibitions and don't count on the annual lists.

You're reading something from the Aussie press. They probably heard Hooker was the number one vaulter in the world, and assumed that meant he had the highest jump.

Mmm I would say most of the major ones have been counting.

The IAAF, USATF, and Track and Field News all accepted Walker's 6 meter jump. I am not sure what more you can ask for.

Dont get your knickers in a knot guys! It may not have been the HIGHEST jump this year but it probably was the BEST - because it took him ahead of Burgess - and of course all of the rest in the overall season rankings.

His progress has been even more remarkable because in 2000 he no heighted in our National Junior Championships at his opening height of around 4.50m. However he has great genes and his original coach, Mark Stewart, is both a great coach and a great guy.

Merry Xmas and a happy new year to y'all from down under. See some of you in Reno I hope. ;) :rose:
