dark horses
So who is going to turn some heads this year? I'm not talking about the regulars, I'm talking about people no one has heard of...yet.

DIII: Two for each men and women
Look for Alex Wise to be an outdoor All-American. Last year he jumped 4.70 qualifying but missing the cut and is on the verge of a big season in his last outing. I am guessing he will be at 5.00 by season's end.
DJ Lehr did not qualify this last year but has improved nearly 2 feet in 2 years. He will qualify for nationals with a 4.95 jump and be a threat at the national meet.
-----
Megan McKenna was ranked 41st last season and had a great coach and group of vaulters to work with. look for her to improve her 3.41 mark to 3.66 to make the cut and challenge for top 8 at nationals.
Rachel Cassata will be a freshman at Monmouth working with Megan McKenna. She will be coming in with a P.R. of 3.43 and if she has the determination of the rest of the Monmouth crew, this college will have 4 representatives (2 men & 2 women) at the national championships at the end of the year. Look for them to have 3 All-Americans our of this young group of quickly improving athletes.

Some big names from my college signing list:
http://www.polevaultpower.com/college/2006class.php
Abilene Christian - Kyle Dennis, KS (17-1) transfer from Johnson County - Should be an immediate big impact in DII
Air Force – Nick Frawley, TX (17-0.75)
Arizona State - Tod Rodenbaugh, AZ (16-9) transfer from Paradise Valley
BYU - Victor Weirich, TX (16-7) - He's a Weirich. His brother fell off a cliff in Australia and almost died and came back to jump 17' or so this past year. If he's not going on a mission right away, he could make an impact.
Cal - Kyle Mills-Bunje, CA (16-7)
Cal - Ryan Shuler, CA (17-4) - I hear Scott Slover is coaching at Cal now, this could translate into big things for a string freshman class.
Dickinson State - Kelsey Aide, ND (12-4) - Should have an immediate impact in the NAIA.
Doane - Erin Shafer, WA (12-6) transfer from Lindenwood - NAIA
Florida - Mike Morrison, VA (17-6.50) - he's a stud, nuff said.
Houston - Alex Bentley, TX (16-10)
Kansas - Jordan Scott, GA (17-1.50)
Kansas - Kirk Cooper, CO (16-6)
Kansas - Britany Parker, TX (13-6.25)
Kansas - Ryan Hays, MO (15-9) transfer from Lindenwood
Kansas is loaded with young talent
Lindenwood - Taylor Dalby, MO (15-3) - NAIA. I hear he is talented, we'll see what happens under the new coaching staff.
LSU - Katelyn Rodrigue, LA (12-4.75)
LSU - Josh Dominguez, LA (16-5.50) - both should make an immediate impact in the SEC
McKendree - Adam Hahne, IL (15-0) - McKendree doesn't really have a vault coach... if he ends up training with Lane at Wash U, could be an impact in the NAIA.
Minnesota - Alicia Rue, MN (13-1.50)
Minnesota - Ben Peterson, MT (16-6)
Two big recruits for Minnesota
Northern Iowa - Phil Hanson, IL (17-1.25)
Oklahoma - Kristen Keith, TX (13-0)
Oregon - Eniko Eros, Hungary (13-7.25) - yes, this is a girl. She's good. Watch out.
Rice - Jason Colwick, TX (17-0)
San Diego State - Stephanie Bagan, CA (13-0)
UCLA - Tori Pena, CA (13-2)
Virginia Tech - Jenia Olkhovskiy, Israel (17-4.50)
Washington - Scott Roth, CA (17-5)
Washington - Ryan Vu, WA (16-3)
Washington - Laura Schvaneveldt, WA (12-6)
- UW is reloading with new talent as always.

UCLA has another girl to look out for.
Lindsey Regan. with a whole year of training without the distractions of gymnastics or cheerleading, with a great coach in Tony Curran, look for her to make some big jumps this year.
Here at VT we also have another 5.30 guy coming in. Thorsten Muller from Germany. He is finishing up something there before arriving here in january.
My pick for a semi dark horse though has to go to former michigan state 5.50+ Brad Gerbaur (spell check??). I know hes not exactly unknown, but after watching him in person a couple times. Clearly has the ability to finish as a 5.60-5.65 collegiate vaulter.

Agreed. If he can stay healthy and put it together, he has the tools to be 5.50+ consistantly.
