WA State Meet Predictions/Results
Zack and I are working on previews for the State Meets this weekend in WA.
Good luck to everyone this weekend! Lots of Pole Vault Power members will be competing or coaching. I will be in Cheney with the small schools, helping the King's kids. PVP mods Ashcraftpv and Robert Schmidt will be in Pasco for the 3A meet. Doria Holbrook, the girl in the upper left corner of your screen will be competing in 4A. And the list goes on and on... good luck!!
Here are Zack's predictions for the 3A/4A. I will post mine soon, for all classifications.
---
For 4A guys is Uhlenkott, Loomis, Powell and Mckane will be battling. McKane is supposedly much faster (not too hard to do for him) so he should be able to get on his bigger sticks. Powell could be dangerous after putting up 15-7 early in the season and he will be fresh because he won't
be running the 100.
Zack's picks
1. McKane Lee 16-6
Sorry no state record today.
2. Jaymes Powell 16-0
3. Mike Uhlenkott 15-0
4. David Loomis 14-9
5. Chris Smith 14-0 (I know only a sophmore)
6. Travis Kruse 13-9
7. Adam Rife 13-9
8. Tyler Dobbs 13-6
4A Girls
4 of the top 8 from state last year are back. All have jumped 12-3 or better! I wouldn't be surprised to see a new state record here. No one else is close to the top 4 as number five in 4A has jumped 11-0. Enders is the best athlete of the group and the defending state champion. She won't give up the title easily. Holbrook could easily have a big day and win too. And then theres Marshalek who has the highest jump all-time in the state but was only 3rd at state last year. Should be a battle in sunny Pasco.
My picks
1. Emily Enders 12-9
Sorry no state record today but does become the first back to back winner in the history of the event.
2. Stevie Marshalek 12-9ÂÂ
Loses the tie breaker
3. Doria Holbrook 12-6
Still has the potential for an even bigger jump
4. Sarah Hegna 12-0
5. Christina Simunds 11-3
6. Rachel Mooney 11-0
7. Katrina Robertson 11-0
Snags a new PR.
8. Jennifer Tiffany 10-6
Reg Hulbert will have his jumper ready to compete at state and snag a new PR.
3A Boys
DJ Brown is the clear favorite but it seems like Thomas Seely just keeps jumping higher with a new PR of 15-6. After these two it will be a tight battle for the remaining spots on the podium. DJ Brown also gets most improved after jumping just 14-9 last year. Still has tons of potential too.
1. DJ Brown 16-1
As long as he is on a big enough pole he'll be good to go. Last week would have made 16-1 but just blew through on his last two attempts.
2. Thomas Seely 15-6
Sorry no PR this week.
3. Ryan Fonda 14-6
Yeah why not give it to the Interlake guy.
4. Loren Duvall 14-6
5. Greg Williams 14-3
6. Justin Clary 14-3
7. Brandon O'Toole 14-0
8. Wes King 14-0
Wow Ashcraft's first season of coaching and he has the top freshman in the state. Having the worst mascot in GH will keep him from going higher.
3A Girls
Alli Moore has been looking awesome and is ready to jump 12+. Lara Jones is the only one officially over 12 however. This field has improved so much since last year that defending champ (and darkhorse again) Courtney Doughty is only ranked 5th.ÂÂ
1. Alli Moore 12-1 (depending on the progression)
First women's state champ for Richard. Tons of potential too.
2. Lara Jones 11-9
3. Piper Patterson
Yeah why not give Lakeside 2-3.
4.. Courtney Doughty 11-6
Comes away from state with another big PR. Good job Coach Schmitt.
5. Lynae Newby 11-3
6. Julie Stone 11-0
7. Stefanie Sternagel 10-9
8. Sarah Jones Ellensburg 10-3
Sorry Ash just couldn't see Tess placing at state.

OK here are my predictions for 3A/4A (small schools coming soon!)
4A Boys
1. McKane Lee, Arlington, 16-3
McKane gets his State title back with a season best.
2. Jaymes Powell, Mead, 16-0
Jaymes's helmet will help him block out the scorching rays in Pasco.
3. David Loomis, Skyview, 15-3
His helmet will also give him an edge.
4. Mike Uhlenkott, North Central, 15-0
5. Chris Smith, Shelton, 14-0
6. Tyler Dobbs, Shorewood, 14-0
Tyler was so embarrased after the crossbar gave him a bloody nose at State 1A last year, he had to move up 3 classifications. I taught him all my pole vaulting secrets last summer, he'll use one to get some PR's at State.
7. Adam Rife, East Valley, 13-6
8. Travis Kruse, Mt. Spokane, 13-6
These Spokane guys are too good not to place.
4A Girls
1. Sarah Hegna, Arlington, 12-9
Sarah is borrowing my pole. It will bring her many PRs and a state title
2. Emily Enders, Snohomish, 12-9
Emily will use fresh legs and sunshine to propel her to a new PR.
3. Stevie Marshalek, Kentlake, 12-6
Stevie might not get a new record, but she will catch the eye of the guys helping move the standards.
4. Doria Holbrook, Eisenhower, 12-3
Doria is the poster-child for my website, therefore she will jump much better than last week.
5. Jennifer Tiffany, University, 11-0
No U-Hi guys at State... time for the girls to step up.
6. Katrina Roberson, Shelton, 10-9
Katrina's mismatched socks are the key to her success.
7. Rachel Mooney, Bethel, 10-6
8. Christina Simunds, Stanwood, 10-6
3A Boys
1. DJ Brown, Squalicum, 16-3
DJ has gained 20 pounds of pure steel since last year. How could he lose?!
2. Thomas Seely, Hanford, 15-3
Thomas will be a home crowd favorite.
3. Ryan Fonda, Interlake, 14-9
Fonda will be so pleased, he will write a poem about his medal.
4. Justin Clary, Hanford, 14-6
Clary is reportly recovering from an injury. Repeat as State Champ he may not, but he will come back strong enough to tie his PR.
5. Brandon O'Toole, Nathan Hale, 14-6
With a coach like Lt. Matt, you know Brandon will make it on the podium.
6. Loren Duvall, Mark Morris, 14-6
Loren will borrow poles from 3 different people, before he finds the one that takes him to a new PR.
7. Wes King, Peninsula, 14-0
Ash will take the state's top freshman on to new heights.
8. TJ Emerich, W.F. West, 13-6
Former W.F. West teammate Ashley Wildhaber hopes to jump the same height at Regionals this weekend.
3A Girls
1. Alli Moore, Sehome, 12-3
Alli is ready for big things. A State Meet Record would be a good start.
2. Lara Jones, Lakeside, 12-0
Almost jumping higher than the guys at her school.
3. Piper Petterson, Lakeside, 11-3
The 90 degree weather may be a bit much for those from the westside who have not even seen the sun in 6 months
4. Courtney Doughty, Burlington-Edison, 11-3
Courtney might not defend her title either, but a PR never hurts.
5. Lynae Newby, R.A. Long, 11-0
Lynae gets props for putting up with staying at my house during camp last summer.
6. Julie Stone, Sehome, 11-0
Anyone who gets into state on the qualifying standard, deserves a place on the podium.
7. Tessa Sagle, Peninsula, 10-9
Ash has to get both his kids up here to get his dynasty off to a proper start.
8. Lori Jackson, Nathan Hale, 10-6
You can do it Lori!
4A Boys
1. McKane Lee, Arlington, 16-3

Oooh look I have internet!
Well the B boys were interesting. 2 guys, in a span of about 10 minutes managed to totally rack themselves on the crossbar, appearing to be in intense amounts of pain
David had several PRs, coming out on top at 13-9. Chris Wallace was the crowd favorite, with his variation of the Western Roll over the crossbar.

4A Boys
1. McKane Lee, Arlington, 16-3
McKane gets his State title back with a season best.
2. Jaymes Powell, Mead, 16-0
Jaymes's helmet will help him block out the scorching rays in Pasco.

His helmet will also give him an edge.
4. Mike Uhlenkott, North Central, 15-0
5. Chris Smith, Shelton, 14-0
6. Tyler Dobbs, Shorewood, 14-0
Tyler was so embarrased after the crossbar gave him a bloody nose at
State 1A last year, he had to move up 3 classifications. I taught him
all my pole vaulting secrets last summer, he'll use one to get some
PR's at State.
7. Adam Rife, East Valley, 13-6
8. Travis Kruse, Mt. Spokane, 13-6
These Spokane guys are too good not to place.
4A Girls
1. Sarah Hegna, Arlington, 12-9
Sarah is borrowing my pole. It will bring her many PRs and a state title
2. Emily Enders, Snohomish, 12-9
Emily will use fresh legs and sunshine to propel her to a new PR.
3. Stevie Marshalek, Kentlake, 12-6
Stevie might not get a new record, but she will catch the eye of the
guys helping move the standards.

much better than last week.

The 90 degree weather may be a bit much for those from the westside

last summer.
6. Julie Stone, Sehome, 11-0

place on the podium.

all my pole vaulting secrets last summer, he'll use one to get some
PR's at State.
7. Adam Rife, East Valley, 13-6
8. Travis Kruse, Mt. Spokane, 13-6
These Spokane guys are too good not to place.
4A Girls
1. Sarah Hegna, Arlington, 12-9
Sarah is borrowing my pole. It will bring her many PRs and a state title
2. Emily Enders, Snohomish, 12-9
Emily will use fresh legs and sunshine to propel her to a new PR.
3. Stevie Marshalek, Kentlake, 12-6
Stevie might not get a new record, but she will catch the eye of the
guys helping move the standards.
4. Doria Holbrook, Eisenhower, 12-3
Doria is the poster-child for my website, therefore she will jump
much better than last week.
5. Jennifer Tiffany, University, 11-0
No U-Hi guys at State... time for the girls to step up.
6. Katrina Roberson, Shelton, 10-9
Katrina's mismatched socks are the key to her success.
7. Rachel Mooney, Bethel, 10-6
8. Christina Simunds, Stanwood, 10-6
3A Boys
1. DJ Brown, Squalicum, 16-3
DJ has gained 20 pounds of pure steel since last year. How could he lose?!

Thomas will be a home crowd favorite.
3. Ryan Fonda, Interlake, 14-9
Fonda will be so pleased, he will write a poem about his medal.
4. Justin Clary, Hanford, 14-6
Clary is reportly recovering from an injury. Repeat as State Champ he
may not, but he will come back strong enough to tie his PR.
5. Brandon O'Toole, Nathan Hale, 14-6
With a coach like Lt. Matt, you know Brandon will make it on the podium.
6. Loren Duvall, Mark Morris, 14-6

one that takes him to a new PR.
7. Wes King, Peninsula, 14-0

8. TJ Emerich, W.F. West, 13-6
Former W.F. West teammate Ashley Wildhaber hopes to jump the same
height at Regionals this weekend.
3A Girls

Alli is ready for big things. A State Meet Record would be a good start.
2. Lara Jones, Lakeside, 12-0

3. Piper Petterson, Lakeside, 11-3
The 90 degree weather may be a bit much for those from the westside
who have not even seen the sun in 6 months
4. Courtney Doughty, Burlington-Edison, 11-3
Courtney might not defend her title either, but a PR never hurts.
5. Lynae Newby, R.A. Long, 11-0
Lynae gets props for putting up with staying at my house during camp
last summer.
6. Julie Stone, Sehome, 11-0
Anyone who gets into state on the qualifying standard, deserves a
place on the podium.
7. Tessa Sagle, Peninsula, 10-9
Ash has to get both his kids up here to get his dynasty off to a proper start.
8. Lori Jackson, Nathan Hale, 10-6
You can do it Lori!
2A Boys
1. Evan Whitehall, Cashmere, 15-10

Always nice to see NCC vaulters on the podium.

1. Kevin Hatch, Freeman, 13-9
2. Robb Waldburger, King's, 13-6
Robb's ready.

Another Odem vaulting. Hopefully this one stays away from baseball.

5. Chris Faidley, King's, 12-0
Faidley just figured out how to swing.

This was the first competition of the day. It was cloudy and cool, but we all figured it would burn off and warm up later. Too bad the opposite happened
Some good jumping all around. My King's girl, Tiffany Dillow, pulled her hamstring at districts. She cleared 2 heights, but it got so bad, she was really limping after each jump. Didn't quite clear 8-0, but quite a performance. All heart girl!
3rd place, Jessie DePell got 2 PRs, clearing 9-6. She is Jake DePell's (last year's 1A champ) little sister. She has an awesome takeoff, already on 13' poles, and just starting to swing. She could be awesome next year, so watch out!
2nd place, Brittany Navarre, got a PR, clearing 9-9. She is a total sweetheart, I hope she gets to vault in college next year.
1st place was Audrea Nolan. She looked great, clearing 9-0, 9-9, 10-0, 10-6, to break the meet record. She tried to move up poles to clear 11-1, but just wasn't getting in the pit deep enough.
A great job by everyone!
Oh yeah, as a former State Champ, I got to hand out the awards

OK first of all these results are wrong... Brianna "only" cleared 10-0... which was a huge PR for her. She PR'd twice, clearing 9-9 and 10-0. And she straight poles!
Stephanie looked really good. She cleared 10-9 easily to tie the meet record. Didn't put together the same jump at 10-10 though. A great meet either way, as she defends her title.

So it started to sprinkle at the end of the 2A girls. The B girls started to warm up... and it started to sprinkle harder... and harder... until it was really raining. Everyone warmed up, and we delayed the PV by 20 minutes, in hope things would calm down.
Nope.
We started anyway. Got from 5-6 to 6-6. It got ugly. We delayed it until tomorrow morning.
Did I mention I was wearing SHORTS all day?! The weather forecast was for 85 degress and partly cloudy! I was soo hot yesterday. Not today. My back is tight as a board from shivering all day.
I should have listened to my coaches... they say pack for a blizzard and bring sunscreen I packed fine... and left it all in the dorms we are staying at
So I am getting up early tomorrow for the B Girls. Your trust PVP moderator, Robert Schmidt, had to head over to Pasco for the 3A girls, so I am helping the Mt. Vernon Christian girls!

OK today was an interesting day, and this was an interesting competition. The 2 girls who cleared 6-0, did so outdoors. One of the 6-6 girls was indoors, the other was out. Everyone else was indoors.
Yes, we moved all of today's pole vaulting indoors! At 7am, it was still crummy weather, so all of the pole vault stuff was moved into the fieldhouse at Eastern.
First order of business was to finish the B Girls. I was not helping at this one because I was coaching the MVC girls (since Robert had to leave).
Well they both did awesome!! Carmen PR'd twice and ended up third on misses. Brittny won with her second best jump ever. They scored a lot of points for their team which ended up winning
The second place girl, Megan, also PR'd twice
I was glad I didn't screw them up! Robert, you did an awesome job of coaching them this year

2A Boys
So I fell asleep before I could finish these...
Here are the 2A Boys results. I was the pole catcher for this competition.
Evan pulled off the easy victory over Joel Omlin. He had a great 2nd attempt at a meet record, 15-6. He was easily a foot over... but also a foot in front and came down on it.
Adam Redmond had a nice 9" PR to get 2nd place
I was really impressed by the crowd that came up to the fieldhouse to watch this. It was hard being indoors and missing the rest of the state track meet, but it was cool to know how many people were most interested in the pole vault.
