Ok if anyone can help explain this to me i would appreciate it.
In NY the state qualifiers are divided into Division 1 (big schools) and Division 2 (small schools). The first place finisher from division 1 and the first place from Division 2 will go to states, and the third place finisher overall can go if they hit a qualifying standard of 13'6.
But now, what happens if the division 1 kid only gets 5th OVERALL and goes, and there are 4 small school kids over 14, like this
Place:.............Division:............Jump:...........Those who qualify:
1.) Eric...............2..................15'...............*
2.) Dave.............2..................14'6.............*
3.) Jason.............2.................14'...............?
4.) Matt...............2...................14'.............?
5.) John..............1....................13'.............*
Im just need to know because this is the case in Section 4 this year, and i am wondering whether i will have it made at 14' or i will need to get 3rd to go. Its one of the dumbest rules of NYS track and field. If you hit 13'6 or 14 at any point during the season you should automatically qualify for states.
