getting verticle at the end

Unread postby cliff » Sun May 07, 2006 11:32 pm

Hi, my name is Cliff. I am a new vaulter, started this spring and new here on the forum. Ok, to introduce myself, My meet PR is 10'6, my prac PR is 11'6. I weigh 129 lbs, and i use either a 4.00m 140 (nordic) or a 14' 140 (pacer).

Ok now, for my problem. I am having trouble getting compeltely verticle at the end of my vault. I have video of me, but i dont know how to get it onto the computer and online. What i am doing is, getting piked, so my feet are above my head and hands, but my butt isnt above my head. I still execute the turn at the end of the vault, and put off, but i am not able to get any higher than my hand holds. I want to be able to get all the way verticle so that i am looking down the runway and flying up whent he pole unbends. Can anyone give me some advice or tips on how to do this please? Thank you in advance!

I know this might be a little inappropriate, but its what i do.
I actually just fling everything forward with my hips to get my vertical ways. Just a suggestion!

if you have any gymnast rings, grab some of those and get in the split position, then swing your trail leg forward just like in the vault, keeping it straight. Think about almost trying to do a full flip.... and just start experimenting with when you can extend your feet to lock out your body vertically. This is called a bubka, and its easiest on rings. Once you can do this well try it on parrellel bars, then a straight pull up bar. Then think about this motion when you jump, coming that far back before you extend, it should feel like you are falling backwards, but dont worry, physics wont let you if you do everything right. good luck!

i just explained a drill i do in another forum, so go there. it's "in need of major help". this should help- make sure you really reach for the bungee in this drill and you WILL invert- i promise.
