vaulting in rain
this may be a bit random but its been raining for the past couple days and vaulting in it has been quite the experiance. i ended up wearing my coaches army issue gloves because i couldn't grip the pole. oh and landing in a soaked pit is actually pretty fun just wondering if anyone else has had any good times w/rain
Save a pole, ride a vaulter
yeah it's been pretty rainy in MA too for a few days. A problem I have is that when I land, I dont want to land straight on my back and get soacked, so I kinda stick my right arm back when I land. It is NOT good, cuz I end up like popping my shoulder and getting like whiplash in my neck. I keep doing that for a few jumps until I can remind myself not to do it so its a huge pain. In otherwords vaulting in rain=bad
I agree, I love having some humidity, as when vaulting, normally my hands get ridiculously dry.
My latest vaults...

Who knows, I just know that when they're dry, I can't grip the pole for the life of me.
Man, the vaulters on my team are the most minority-based in the area...every other team is all white guys, except for one asian...my team has 3 asians (4 who know how to vault) and a black guy...fun stuff.
Its always interesting at meets

rain can be a sure killer for the outdoor season. last year i jumped at 2 meets (one championship and one dual meet) in the rain. but hey, in the dual meet i upped my PR from 10'6'' to 11.. who woulda guessed haha...
im kinda disapointed this season, so far 4 meets (2 invit.) have had pole vault cancelled due to rain, one due to the damn SATs.. errr....

As for putting your arm(s) behind you when you're landing..not the greatest idea, let alone your shoulders, my teammate last year put her arms behind her before landing without thinking and broke one, and sprained the other. Hope thats what you need to remember not to put your arms behind your back. A little waters gonna feel a lot better than a broken bone.
