update: no final decision yet, but they did get the alderman's office (local city manager) involved which is not a good sign. politics. I'm starting to think I may need to bribe someone with a case of scotch, or move it off public streets onto private property, like a nearby parking lot. doing all I can to pull this off.

starting height would be whatever you guys wanted.

Missouri Travelers probably would include Brian Hancock and possibly Shelby "Squiggy" Franklin (an 8th grader jumping 11 feet Plus)

guys I'm doing my best to pull this off. the city and the neighborhood assn that runs the festival have both stone walled me. I'm now talking to DePaul university that has a private parking lot next to the festival area. at this point, however, I don't think I'll have time to organize everything and draw participants even if they give me the go-ahead. If it doesn't happen this year I'll keep pushing for next year.

unfortunately a chicago street vault will not happen this year. too much resistance from city bureaucrats.
BUT --
We have gotten verbal OK from the Park District to do a 3 day vault competition at Mayor Daley's holiday sports fest December 28, 29 & 30 at McCormick Place in Chicago. If we demonstrate a successful and safe event we will certainly have the support of the park district to do a street (park) vault next summer in a city park. So, for those of you in the Midwest, make plans to jump in Chicago over the holidays, and stay for NYE.

Becca - do you know how to go about getting USATF sanctioning for an event? We'll need it for the holiday sports fest. thanks.

Ha, I was at McCormick place in June for something and remember as i wandered around the huge complex, i could only think that it would be a great place for an indoor pole vault competition!

Haha OK glad to hear that is indoors, because it would be a little COLD that time of year.
