So whats next?? If you "brush the bar" with any part of your body its a miss?!?! Besides, if you knock the bar off COMPLETELY and can put it back on the pegs......................holy crap what a feat that would be. In fact that should be LEGAL cause if you can pull that one off while falling away you da man/WOman. Try just standing on the pit and throwing the bar up on the pegs (not with one end on and the other off). The great thing about Track is it is a TRUE sport........that means that the officials effect the outcome almost none. Its all about higher faster further. Dont mess up our sport by making officials call it like they see it. If the bar stays up its a make!!

like brian said, are they going to start calling it a miss if any part of your body come in contact with the bar? How about if the bar jumps off the pegs and lands back on without falling? is that going to be considered a miss too since the bar became displaced?
Its just another fine example of people outside the vaulting community making the rules for us. They don't fully understand the sport so they make uninformed decisions.
One example: The athletic directors of our league have decided to make it mandatory for all girls meets to start at 7'. At the same time, the height you need to jump in order to compete in the league meet is 7'. One AD's logic was "well, if you can't jump 7', you shouldn't be jumping anyway".
Its people like this who are bringing down our sport. Does anyone ever bother to ask us what we think?

i think i said this before this whole thread got edited. i am against volzing, but what i care about more is CONSISTENCEY in the calling of volzing. If the rule is no volzing, then call it EVERYTIME. We've all seen meets where the officials let it go by. This is why people still try it; they leave it up to the mercy of the officials. There is nothing worse than inconsistent officiating in ANY sporting event.

ya, if someone is able to throw a bar BACK up to the pegs then that shows great skill, In BAR THROWING, not Pole VAulting. in pole vaulting your supposed to go OVER the bar, if people are that interested in putting bars up, start a new event called " Bar Throwing."( this whole post sounded much more sarcastic then i actually meant it to be, but its the only way to voice it)
And as for "touching the bar with any part of your body" comment. It's a little ridiculous to think that someones going to be able to hold the bar on with their chest or shoulder... I just think that if the official sees someone make a conscious effort of holding the bar up with their hand, then it should be called, as vaultguru had said CONSISTENTLY.. its not about touching the bar or not, its about, as i said above, making a conscious effort to keep it up.....

Wow, I'm really sorry. I think people take me way too serious sometimes. I think the first time I talked about Voltz, there was zero emotion... the second time, after I got edited, I was angry, so I'm sorry folks. I mean, if you guys think I'm a self righteous jerk, then there is nothing to do but apologize. Honestly, I don't know the first thing about pole vault, and yes I am a freshman, so you connect the dots. I'm just saying what I think, and if you feel threatened or something, then I'm sorry. I'll write dry comments from now on. Oh and the picture of me after winning conference to the left obviously makes people angry so I'm gonna change it.

Yes you are a young pup - but your posts put you up with Rhodes scholars compared to some I have seen - I will take energy and passion over comments that have very little in touch with reality - I also figured your picture was based on a big cleareance or some major butt whipping - If you happen to be driving through the area in late August or later - stop in and we will give you a tour - plus see if I can get the wookie into an intense frame of mind (his freshman vaulter does it to him almost every vault practice)
Plant like crap sometimes ok most times
