WELL.................kinda. The rants and raves of last nite were remove so as not to anger the queen of the board. Not by me, but by one of the other moderators. As I understand it the whole topic got a little too personal to be public.

In GENERAL if you want to trade blows with someone do it in private (pm). Thats not for you John thats for your honorable advesary.

ok thanks. My message about Voltz got deleted, even though there was nothing wrong with it. Apparently, my opinion doesn't matter anymore, but for anyone who cares: Dave Voltz was an incredible athlete. You gotta give the guy credit. He could bench press a house, and had a great vertical leap off his hands for crying out loud. I just think that putting the bar up is garbage. For those of you that have perfected it, congratulations. You have succeeded in wasting your time perfecting something that doesn't really make you a wonderful vaulter. That's all. I think I said it with less emotion last time. Sorry about this.

Ouch John!!!!!!!! I started slapping at the bar in HS because i got tagged in the nose once and bled for like 45min. It started out to protect my face..........then it turned into the ugliest, most exciting clearences you have ever seen.........MOST coachs and athletes out there say......if you have that kind of awarness and prowess to pull it off, whats the problem. Right now its really bad because of the "judgement" calls that are sometimes really bad. How do you sit in the stands and tell a partial track fan that "no no that doesnt count even though the bar didnt fall.........his hand brushed the bar so it is a miss". Now thats the worst case but it HAS happened. I dont like the smaller pegs but I could live with them if they got rid of the holder rule. Shorter pegs....anything goes. Realistically we all get lucky sometimes and knock the snot out of the bar and somehow it jumps bounces spins but stays up...........Ask anyone who does it and they can all tell you they have CAUSED more misses trying to hold than makes using the holder.

A little fat to chew on

By the way..........I lost my conf champs back in the day cause I held 17'6" (even though I cleared it by 6"). I just reached out and touched it on the way over. Ended up walking away with a 5th in the comp with the bar still sitting there on the pegs.

The probem I have with the rule is that it takes the purity of the event away. The bar stays up and Its not a make???? Now explain to 20000 people why. Myself, I could never do it, but the excitement of it was unbelievable. That's the excitement we miss in the sport sometimes. Yea, lets make it more boring.

Actually, the rule isn't illegal by IAAF anymore. It the bar doesn't leave the pegs its still a good jump. That is the Galfione Rule. So keep perfecting. LB

anyways kinda got off the subject but ya i know all about the whole volzing thing. but dave volz did clear 19 ft. i know dave volz personally my mom has been best friends with his sister since they were little and also danny burton is also from bloomington. dave volz had lots of injuries he recovered from... who knows maybe the next 20 ft vaulter would have been dave volz hadnt he been injured. David got his American record of 18-10 volzing it. just thought id let u guys know some stuff. my dad was also an IU vaulter before Volz Lance Fox. My dad vaulted at Bloomington South... 3 years later Volz came and broke his records unfortunately...

being one who can do it, i'm all for "volzing". I understand that if it comes off the pegs and you put it back on its a miss, but if its still on the pegs, i think you should be able to take it out to dinner and a movie if you want. Its a skill just like getting vertical.

OK, first off, cool down........
what are you a freshman, maybe soph.??
so you are now the vault expert and we all should neel down to you.

tell us now, what exactly is it that makes you a wonderful vaulter????
is it ranting and raving like your some kind of badass ??
is it jumping 5.35 without a "holder"??

i agree with dub and lon, if the bar stays its a make

P.S. lay off the hardass attitude, you're not impressing anyone here, this message board is for us vaulters to converse about topics and make friends, not to see who can pee the farthest(although that would make for a good competition)

im giong to have to go ahead and agree with jomrus( in a mellow fashion), if your going to make the bar, MAKE the bar, I just think its a silly idea of making an effort to try and make contact with the bar. and touching the bar, is obviously how the bar falls off right? I figure, less contact with the bar= making the bar more often...

ok now for a question, has anyone seen any pictures or videos of BUBKA! volzing any bars...im hoping that everyone agrees that Bubka, being the world record holder, is the best vaulter of all time. I, personally, have never seen Bubka volz any bars, but i havent seen every single jump of his career...... so i repeat myself, has anyone seen bubka volz any bars, im really curious if anyone has, cuz i certainly have not.... thanks for your time,,,,,

jump high...
