Bill "Wild Bill" Payne, is the toughest pole vaulter I have ever seen. I may have to travel up to Ft. Worth myself. Best times I can remember around a pole vault pit include Carl Erickson, Greg West, Scotty Miller, Scooter Hesseltine, JJ Miller, Joey Guerra, shoot a whole bunch more and of course Wild Bill, when they were all at UT in the early 90's. I learned alot from Bill then. Good to hear your back in the game Bill
compete and jump safe, have fun

My coach (Lane Lohr) used to sport a mean mullet, but he has retired it
Every vaulter from '85-'92 sported the Tennessee Top Hat. Watch any SkyJumpers video. Everybody from Starkey to Huffman to Bubka. I believe Bubka's first 20' vault was with a mullet. Maybe that's why no one has jumped near it since.
The power is in the hair.

I thought the only coaching you needed to know back in the 90s was the following:
Bring it!
Crank on it!
Come on with it!
Least that was how I was coached. Now you have all these kindler friendlier coaching styles and a huge book explaining everything with all these studies. Camps are everywhere.
I kid, I kid.

Here's to the ULD!
BP
I jumped during the same time frame and had the mullet too
Lane Coached me at Illinois and I placed 2nd to you at the Texas Relays one year!
My best story is because you and the Baylor guys all jumped with ULD's, John Kelly and I had to try it on the way back from Drake and both got sick as dogs.
The pole vault can teach you lots of things good and bad
I would much rather work with 100% heart and 75% talent than 100% talent and 75% heart!
