Carbon poles...

Man, I was vaulting on CarbonFX most of this year, because i had seen the better jumpers in the state using them. Poor decision. I got an ESSX pole in and I have consistently jumped almost a foot higher. I think it is incredible. I think diffrent vaulters should use different sticks, but it makes a diffrence when you find what works for you. I think that the CarbonFX reacted too fast for me, but the ESSX really is a finely tuned pole that goes very well with my timing.

Sigh on that note... I got an Essx too. I really love it but I cant get my timing right and Im not getting inverted at all... could it be that Im scared? A polevaulter scared? Im just so much higher before I get inverted. Now if someone can tell me how to not do this! Ive done some extra high bungee stuff which seems to work... but then I move the bar back down again and poof. I thought I had it for a while but I kept coming down right across the bar.. cant seem to get my standards right :-|

This worked for me.

Put a bungee 4 feet higher than your pr, and have a bungee at pr. When you vault look for the highest bungee. It worked for me a long time ago when i was first learning to get back. Should work.

I'm not trying to diss on anyone here or anything but it seems to me like you would want the fastest reacting pole out there. Its just a matter of getting the technique good enough to work with it. The faster a pole unbends the more energy it should return.

As PVJunkie - had some carbon poles made that he could bend but never catch up with - thats why there is more than one type pole - not everyone is built the same - or has the same technique - and the guys were rocking in practice yesterday - I feel soooo looow when even with extensions they have it set high

one thing i can say is that with carbon poles you have to hit your plant to get into the pads. but on a reg 15 165 i have its easy to get in. i can get in no matter what but on the other hand on my 15 170 which is a Pacer Carbon FX i have to hit the plant like its going to brake. so really you have to try a little harder on the carbons but they give you much more on top.

Hmmmm - so you have more trouble getting in on your 170 than on your 165 because it's a Carbon? And the 170 Carbon gives you more on top than the 165 because it's a Carbon?

Just out of curiosity - what is the flex/decimal number on your 165, (19.0 for example) and what is the flex on your 170 (18.0 for example)?
