Mid-distance or Jump spikes
For a descent HS vaulter, does it really make that much of a difference to have spikes made for jumping or would it be better to save $50 and go with some cheaper mid-distance spikes. Or would it be better to get sprint spikes instead??
look for deals on jump spikes. they do make a difference.
Dick Pond Athletics in Chicago has Adidas, Asics, Muzuno, Nike and Rebok jump spikes on sale. Checkout other places like eastbay and my favorite.... froogle.google.com !!!

I used mid-distance spikes until maybe 2 years ago. They're fine for high school pole vaulters in my opinion. Definitely do NOT get sprint spikes. They have no heel and are just shin splints waiting to happen.
If you look around you should be able to find some older model jump spikes for under $50. I would call First to the Finish.

What do you think of these: http://www.dickpondathletics.com/produc ... sp?ID=2888. They seem pretty good, and they're cheap.

I jumped with these the last two years, and although I am switching back to Nike LJ, I really liked the Mizunos, the spike plate was just small for my tastes and the shoes are a little bit heavy, but for high school they are far better than what I jumped in when I was in HS. $29.00 can't beat that.

I've seen a good number of vaulters in those and they seemed to like them.
i was bored a couple of days ago, so i went over to dick pond's and tried on every single jump spike they had. the mizuno's were the "tallest" jump spike i tried on. they were the only shoe that i could get on my foot with my orthotics in them as well. they are perfect if your foot is a little taller than normal or you just want a little more room in them.
MIZUNO'S! They have a huge rocker to help you jump. You may want to consider the TJ spikes if you heel strike at takeoff. If your foot is narrow get nike, I like the width of the Mizuno's they don't kill my feet. Bottom line: buy what fits, If you can't try them on then go off someone else's advice.
