Pole vault returns to Mount Zion track
An $11,000 contribution from the Mount Zion Trackbackers will fund a new landing system, which will pave the way for pole vault's return to Mount Zion.
The Braves have not had pole vault as part of the track and field program for more than 10 years. Girls will also be able to compete.
Boys track coach Tim Nolen expects the addition to help the team in the long run, but not right away.
"Hopefully we'll get some young kids into it at the junior high level," he said. "It's not an easy skill to do.
There were some very good vaulters here in the early '90s, but no one here now has really done it yet."
