Twin brothers Casey and Scott DiCesare will come to Westwood after competing in the decathlon and pole vault for Irvington HS in New York.

In an effort to upgrade our decathlon program, we went all the way to the east coast to pick up these two extremely promisting brothers," noted Venegas. "Both of these athletes have incredible ability and will benefit the multi's program next year and for years to come."

In all, the Bruins signed eight talented athletes during the early signing period - two of the top hurdlers in the nation, David Klech and Darius Reed, jumper Steven Taylor, throwers Nick Robinson and Bo Taylor, pole vaulter Greg Woepse and decathletes Casey and Scott DiCesare.

DiCesare twins jump at UCLA offer

They sat at Drake Stadium and watched the Los Angeles sun set over the bleachers. It was all the sales pitch they needed.

"How would you like to see that every day?" UCLA pole vault coach Anthony Curran asked Irvington's Casey and Scott DiCesare.

And they were sold.

The DiCesare twins, two of the top pole vaulters in the state, signed track and field scholarships with UCLA Sunday.

"That just kind of stuck with us," said Scott, the outdoor state pole vault champ. "It was amazing."

The twins were mobbed by schools seeking their services but wanted to train and compete in warm weather. They narrowed their choices to UCLA, USC and Virginia Tech. Casey and Scott have family in California and said they were impressed by the Bruins' coaching staff.

"They're all really good programs," Casey said. "We were impressed by all of them. We just felt (UCLA) was the best choice for academics and athletics."

The DiCesares, adept at the hurdles, long jump, and triple jump as well as the pole vault, are likely to be used primarily as decathletes but will still compete in the pole vault. It helps that Curran has produced a laundry list of all-Americans and long jump world record-holder Mike Powell is the Bruins' jumps coach.

Both said history at UCLA, which boasts numerous Olympic alumni, helped sway their decision. They could have held out and tried to increase their stock with a strong winter track season but decided to take the opportunity to sign with their top choice while the money was still available.

"A spot at UCLA is really a prestigious spot," Scott said. "To have a spot on the team is really important and we couldn't pass that up."

So they passed on full scholarship offers to be a part of a program where they thought they could excel. They marketed themselves by sending highlight videos of competition to West Coast and schools southern.

"It's funny because a coach from Oklahoma called and said it was the greatest video he's ever seen," Scott said, "and even if we were terrible, he would have called us anyway on principle."

They always planned to attend school together and agreed that the transition to school and the training would be easier.

"And if I tell someone that I have an identical twin brother," Scott said, "it'd be much easier for them to believe if he's standing right there."

There’s another Roberge headed to the University of Nevada.

Marshfield High School senior standout pole vaulter Muriel Roberge signed a national letter of intent Tuesday at the high school to compete for the Wolfpack next year. The school will give her a full-ride scholarship for her athletic talent.

WCC: Minnesota High School Distance Champion Elizabeth Yetzer Becomes a Gopher Printable Version
November 16, 2005 - University of Minnesota women’s track & field/cross country head coach Gary Wilson announced the signing of Minnesota high school standouts Elizabeth Yetzer of Lakeville and Alicia Rue of Plymouth to National Letters of Intent.

Rue is a pole vault/hurdle specialist in her senior season at Robbinsdale-Armstrong High School. Rue has a Minnesota Class AA state title in both the pole vault and the 100-meter hurdles on her resume. At the 2005 state meet, Rue cleared 12 feet, 9 inches to win the pole vault in record fashion then minutes later ran to a runner-up finish in the 100-meters hurdles in a time of 14.92 seconds. Rue added a seventh-place showing the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 46.72. As a sophomore, Rue won her first state crown in the 100-meter hurdles and placed fourth in the pole vault.

TCU Track & Field signs seven to National Letters of Intent
Six females and one male make up early signing class for Horned Frogs

Nov. 16, 2005

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU track and field head coach Darryl Anderson has announced the addition of seven athletes for the 2006-07 season. The early fall signing class consists of five track and field athletes from the state of Texas while the other two reside outside the state lines.

The TCU women's team will get added strength next season with the inkings of Brittany Blaylock, Neidra Covington, Rachel Joiner, Carlene Mayfield, Danielle Selner and Leslie Starnes. Each currently possesses her own impressive track record, which combined will only deepen the competitiveness level as a team.

Starnes, a solid pole vaulter, begins her senior campaign tied 12th nationally among high school seniors in track and field. She was named 3A all-state and 3A state runner-up in the pole vault, clearing 12-3 in the event.

BRONCO TRACK AND FIELD SIGNS TWO STUDENT-ATHLETES TO WOMEN’S TEAM

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State University head track and field coach Mike Maynard has announced the signing of two student-athletes to national letters of intent. The two new additions to the women’s team are Annelise Bertleson of Boise, and Eleni Kafourou of Athens, Greece.

Bertleson is in her senior year at Borah High School and competes in the pole vault. Her best mark came last year during her junior season when she cleared 12-10 (3.91-meters). She also won the 2005 Idaho State High School Championship pole vault title in the 5A division. Bertleson ended the 2005 season ranked No. 10 in the high school ranks by Dyestat.

"We are extremely pleased to be at the point where we can attract this level of student-athletes to our women's track and field program,â€Â
