Thull shines on pole vault
WESTBOROUGH, Mass. -- East Lyme High School's Jordan Thull, the 2005 New England Scholastic Pole Vault Champion, set a personal best of 15-feet, 1/8 inches and won last Thursday's Patriot Pole Vault Club's "Vaultarama" competition.

The height also set a new track record at Westborough High School's facility.

Thull, who won the New England Scholastic Championship in June with a vault of 14 feet 6 inches, and had a previous personal best of 14 feet, 83/4 inches which he set indoors last winter, almost decided not to attend the event because his poles were locked up in the shed at East Lyme High School.

But he made the trip and borrowed poles from Doug Lange, the coach of the Patriot Pole Vault Club.

"Jordan's jump was just fantastic," Lange said in a statement. "I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can do in his senior year."

Ken Appel set the official Connecticut Scholastic Record at 15-5 in 1975.
