PR at age 47!

Unread postby Rhino » Sat Jul 16, 2005 10:15 pm

This evening, I got over 4.20 meters (13' 9 1/4"). That's an improvement of 8 centimeters from 28 years ago when I first cleared 13'6". I've had a fairly dissappointing season up to today, with a knee injury in March and several no-heights. Tonight I put together a couple of fairly decent vaults.

I was hoping to clear 14' before taking the opportunity to brag, but this may be the last meet this year.

Rhino,

Congratulations Big Time! Way to go.

When I saw you last year in Maine, I thought you looked terrific. Take care of yourself. I'll bet that you get 14'.

Thanks souleman and Russ. Are they having that Beach Vault in Maine again? It's conceivable that I could head up to New England later this year.

Rhino
Congrats, a PR is awesome anytime but at 47 that is really great. I hope you get that 14' jump.
I am a few years older than you and I am also chasing that 14' jump. I have had quite a few good looks at it this year and I have one or two more chances to get it this year, so I am still hopefull I will clear 14' this summer.

Tell you what, I will clear it, if you do. Deal.
Take Care

Thanks, vaultwest.

I just brushed 14' with a short run and handhold in practice today. I may go to the Indy State Fair Vault and get it there. Let me know when you get it.

PR at 47... you are "The Man! I know you have to be pretty pumped up about it. Keep it going. You might as well go ahead and enter the 14' club while you are at it.

Man that is so cool!! Set your sights high and you will get there. I was fortunate enough to coach the late Dan Borrey (cancerous lymphoma)who had a college/open best (in Belgium) of 4.20m or 13' 9 1/4". He went on to win WAVA M45 in Buffalo at 4.60m - 15' 1", got a M50 WR at 4.50m - 14' 9" and a M55 Indoor WR at 13' 4". The last one was after he was diagnosed as terminal. Like yourself, an amazing talent. Congrats again and keep up the great work. As you can tell, we're all behind you!! Bubba

I finally did enter the 14' club. After no-heights at my first three starts this season, I dropped from 8 to 7 lefts and went to softer poles. Since then I have been way more consistent. So Friday at an all-comers meet I went 0-- and XX0 at 13' - 14'.

It took me 30 years to improve from 13' to 14'. Hopefully the next foot will come quicker!
