New Essx Poles with NEW Labels

Now there Lon, its not that you disagree. I said (and even all caped it) "SUBSTANIALLY" ruducing pole speed. I could be a contributing factor with other (more important) factors to slowing pole speed. Very few poles will go through their life without the tell tale scares on the bottom of the pole indicating that they are hitting the top back of the box. Thats why so many kids put 10,000 layers of tape (which is a bad thing cause the more weight you add down there the heavier the pole feels) to the bottom of the pole, and that was the origin of the pole protector sleeve (plastic thing that snaps onto the bottom of the pole instead of all that darn tape). I have jumped at both steep and excessive box angles. The steep wasnt too hard to overcome (it has more to do with the tip of the pole locking into the very bottom of the box because the bottom of the box is at an uphill angle. With a normal box the tip does not LOCK in and as the pole hits it allows for a small piviot on the part thats hitting. The worst boxs I have ever jumped at were the excessive box angle boxs. These were scary because the pole popped out on every jumper there. The angle was not vert enough to "stop" the pole and the tip just ramped up and out. The guys with the highest grip had the most problems (and we all know i sure dont grip very high so you can imagine how bad it was for the rest of them). As for the 3 point of force..........we all know that....... but until a pole is tested as a pole instead of a beam (the current flex test is based in beam theory) the 3rd force point is lost excpet to the coachs eye.

I have an EZB Fastback that Earl designed in the late 80's that has no mark on the bottom, which would indicate that it does not hit the back of the box, i never tape my poles or put pole protectors on them...

it also bends high and is my PR pole...

Funny thing about "Fastbacks" - I have a few sitting in the R&D rack - older poles - say PACER on them? - but how about this - same about of glass used in two poles - same amount of body wraps etc. same amount of square inches of sail piece and for grins lets say they flex out the same - but the sail pieces are located differently - one stiffens lower (more glass) and bends higher - the other more balanced - which one has the higher cantilever load and thus slightly more effort to carry? This is a law of physics - also a pole can never give back more energy then you put into it - hopefully you can get close to the amount you put into it back in a useful manner - the idea being jump high and have fun doing it. PS: a sharp looking pole does not hurt - (that mental aspect counts also) - growing up a lot of hot rods had the old flame effect on them. Maybe someone needs a stealth fighter on a label - but - would you be able to see it?

Bubka who jumped on Pacer, then, Nordic, and then Spirit poles rarely taped the bottom of his money poles. Some of his training poles did have a light wrap. But all the poles I saw including the ones he had inspected before the 1996 Olympic Games had no scratches or tape on the bottom of the poles except the normal label white wrap. (They were used poles, not new). A video that I was privileged to see from the 1996 Olympic meet and also a meet in France taken from the box level for his first 6 meter jump the pole never hit the back of the box. In all the videos I have seen his poles do not bend low.

Mike Tully former Olympic Silver medalist 1984 - 2-time Olympian with 5 World Records comes by the factory from time to time to consult on poles. He says his style was to swing so the pole does not bend low and creates a high bend. He had John Merritt inventor of the first Carbon Pole from GILL make all his poles so he it was easier for him to accomplish this style. These poles similar to the ones Earl Bell has developed have been around since 1976 when Earl jumped his first World Record on a special Sky Pole Designed by Bruce Caldwell and Paul Richards (Altius).

AMF/Pacer (Herb Jenks) wanted Earl to jump on their poles so they made a clone of this pole with a spiral wrap for Earl so he could jump on their pole in the 1976 Olympics. He jumped 18’4â€Â

She wasnt exactly clear on the history, but i'm just curious if they are relatives, cause that name i would presume would not be to common, lol.

Absolutely, all of them now except one!! They are all Earls old Pacer "fastback" poles. Bruce just sent me an ESSX Carbon to try out.

I figure if the company gives you poles you keep the label on them, but if Earl gives you the poles you should put his company logo on them

Whoa last time I checked this was my website... if I have a problem with people plugging their products I will talk to them about it. And I have not had a problem with anything, if you feel like I should have email or PM me.
