Normally, local high schools are pretty good about trading and borrowing poles (trading usually works better because they have collateral - lol). I would suggest that you ask other local schools around where you are at.

How high is your son vaulting? How much does he weigh?
I only ask because most beginners arent ready to be jumping on a 14' pole.

Also - where are you located? Depending on where you're located I may know of coaches or vaulters in your area that may be able to help you.

Used Poles

Unread postby biglar » Wed Apr 27, 2005 11:20 am

Matthew:

He's just stiff poleing 9' right now. We're located in Seaford, DE. Seaford is about 30 miles west of Lewes. He's a junior @ SHS and just started vaulting this spring. His coach has tried trading with other HS's with no success. He's about 5' 9" and weighs about 155#

I had a bunch of HS buddies who vaulted in HS. They've all moved away, but we've been rehashing the HS memories with emails. I think he's got some potential, but I realize that if he doesn't get a pole that he can bend now, he's gonna have an uphill battle trying to make much progress next year - with it being his senior year. So I thought I may be willing to invest in a pole this year.

It'd be cool if he could come practice with y'all this summer. It sounds like you're working on a good setup and have a fair amount of interest. Seaford doesn't really have a pole vaulting coach, so I'm sure he could pick up some good pointers.

Thanks for helping me out and nice website.

Tim

Tim,

I would be more than happy to help him out with his jumping. I believe I have a 13' 155 Skypole EZ Plant that would be a much better pole for him to be on. (Also a great pole to learn how/get used to bending on) The only problem is that there are other people who are using it right now as well (I believe) - so I'm not sure I could loan it out for the rest of the season. At a minimum I can make sure that we bring the pole with us to the large meets/invitationals. My younger brother Justin vaults for DCHS - his uniform is purple and our pole bag is BRIGHT RED with a Hawaiin floral print (the company sent the wrong bag :P ), so you cant miss us. Thats if we cant meet up and work with him before the large meets.
Otherwise, I'd say we should schedule a weekend practice or two so we can work with him and get some experience on the pole.
We'd also love for him to join the club and vault with us this summer - its great fun and great experience, and I know that when I vaulted in high school, I hated that the best weather of the year, summer, was wasted with no vaulting, because we had nowhere to go.
Send a reply over this or you can PM or email me if you have any more questions or ideas.
Hope this helps.

Oh yeah - do you happen to know if Seaford has a 13'6 145? (or possibly a 13' 140-145)
I ordered 2 for my brother that were supposed to arrive Monday but I just heard from the shipping company that they arrived damaged and were sent back - so he might not get the replacements in time. Just thought I'd ask.

maybe we'd even be able to hold a beach or boardwalk vault down there (DE) next summer. Any ideas or input is always appreciated.
Thanks

I think 8-10 of my teammates as well as my coach are really interested in a beach vault. I would be avaliable to help organize it and my coach would have access to poles to bring over if you all decided to put it together.
