Sure, show the Essx Carbon breaking but not the Ultralight - way to be equitable! ;)

I didn't get any pictures of Ray's pole breaking. I wasn't even around when he did it.

Uprights and poles

Unread postby completemadness » Sat Jun 11, 2005 6:42 pm

Had a UCS go the same way last year for one of my male vaulters... I wonder if the manufacturers could look into padding the uprights so they protect the poles more?

The UCS standards at the meet are designed with padding to protect in this way.

The blue stuff is padding.

this one i really dont think you can blame on essex...

this kid was bending the pole well past 110, maybe even 120. the only person ive ever seen bend a pole more is derek miles.

plus he was sitting on it. not jumping up at the plant, pulling with his top hand, hes got pole breaker written all over him

When your HOT///

Unread postby Bruce Caldwell » Mon Jun 13, 2005 10:39 am

When your HOT/// moving up only .2 flex is not enough.
Steve Palmer Minnesota State was hitting his mark and was really HOT that night. He did overload the poles and needed to move to the 14.5 but it was a big spread in flex numbers. This was a 15.2
he then went to a 15.0 and crushed it too

Yes another brand had two poles break in the competition as this one of mine.
I hate to see any brand break!!.

Poles break for a variety of reasons.

We wish Steve great success in the future as we have heard he has jumped over 18'3" in practice on our ESSX sticks.
Not bad for a 520 17'+ PR in meets.

he needs to just hold lower. hes holding 16'3 with no penetration and overloading poles. That by definition is over gripping. He also has some incredible potential. He has very poor technique up top. No real swing or layback. Its a very beginner looking jump just happens to be on a large pole. haha

but yeah, id expect to hear big things from him if he continues vaulting
