Mike Morrison sets new VA state meet record

Unread postby moknows » Mon Jun 06, 2005 9:56 am

Mike Morrison of Great Bridge jumped 16-6 on his first attempt to set a new VA state meet record (old record 16-1). He stopped jumping after setting the record as he still had other events in which to compete. At the end of the day he had 5 top 3 finishes - 1st PV, 2nd LJ 22-9, 110H 14.61, 300H 38.07 and 3rd TJ 46-4.5. Great Bridge tied with Landstown for the AAA state title with 52 points.

I didn't know you could compete in that many events. In Oregon the max. number of events you can do is 4. it is the same for JOs so, is it different in other states. Just wondering cuz Mike Morrison had 5 top 3 placings and i didn't know you could compete in that many. But Congrats to him.
This year your gonna have to work twice as hard.

Each state sets their own rules about how many events you can compete in.

He blew it up too...Lots of room in the front and probably 6-8 inches on top. Hit it on the way down but not enough to knock the bar off. Watched him go 16'9 earlier in the year...it won't be long before he's over 17'

This is kinda off topic, but on a somewhat funny note there was a kid named mike morrison from nj. He wasn't a vaulter but he was a 7'3" high jumper.

He is a junior, so I assume 16 or 17. He won the deca for his age group last year at Junior nationals

Mike Morrison of Great Bridge High School was named Gatorade’s Virginia Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year on Tuesday.

Morrison, who helped the Wildcats to a share of the Group AAA state outdoor title earlier this month, is the second consecutive South Hampton Roads athlete to win the award and the second from his school this year.

Wilson’s LaShawn Merritt won the track award last year, and Great Bridge baseball standout Justin Upton was Gatorade’s national and state winner for this year.

That is crazy! South Dakota has a maximum of 4 events! I guess I thought it was the same way too! One year we had a kid vault 15' to win pole vault, won long jump, won Triple, and got 2nd in the high jump. He didn't even win MVP at the state meet! What is that?
