I know everybody is going to try and roast me for this, but, if 2 of the best guys aren't in the competition how can this NCAA championship not be lacking something? Something is wrong with the system when a couple of the best don't get in. I know, I know--everybody LOVES the regional system! I just don't get it? I spoke out against the system when it was first introduced. It has the potential to produce watered down fields, by letting in a few people who don't deserve to be there (low heights), and/or leaving good jumpers behind.

Now, I know everyone is going to come back with the argument that they No Heighted on that one particular day letting some lesser jumper get in (who got it done), blah, blah. That still doesn't negate the fact the the field is not the best it could be. Especially when it does not include jumpers like Tommy Skipper or Yoo Kim.

Go back to the old system! HA! HA!

Cpvault, I do not believe everyone here is going to roast you, as I have simliar beliefs to those of yours. While I was one of the unfortunate ones to not make it through regionals, my dislike for the system started before that. I understand that I did not bring it when you can say it counted, but really should NC's be where it counts? (yes, i realize you have to qualify). I guess it bothers me because I know as a competitor, and from a lot of vaulters I have talked to, I would rather win against the best, and beat them outright, then to not have that chance. I do think there is a need for some sort of qualifying system based around the regional sytem and the indoor system, as I feel there should be more than one way to ensure a spot into nationals. This of course is just my opinion, and with cpvault, i'm sure there will be plenty different opinions about this posted in response.

wacky274,

You are absolutely right! If there is going to be a regional system, it must guard against excluding the best vaulters. I would imagine any/all vaulters that reach the NCAA would appreciate jumping against the best quality field possible. I take nothing away from the vaulters that earned the spot; but, they have to feel like they've dodged a bullet (so to speak).

Syin' Brian,

You may be right! Skipper has been injured most of the year, so, if we throw him out we still have Yoo Kim. Same problem. My argument has always been, that the regional system has the potential to produce a much more watered down field than the old system. It doesn't always happen (obviously); but, the system more readily lends itself to that sort of situation.

Good point though Brian.
