He made it big, too. Probably 3" in front and 4" over the top and back.

If he turns 17 this year it doesnt really count i dont think. But he is still a youth. Isn't it supposed to just count by the years? like this is his 17th year not 16th. I remember Jacob Davis jumped really high but it didnt count because he was to old by the years. correct me if im wrong.
i think before my days are done.

IAAF only considers the year you were born not the month/day. Even if you don't turn 17 until December 31st, you are considered 17 for that entire year.

I sounds like two different records are being talked about here. The IAAF junior records are by the birth year. The US and world age group records are by birth date. They gave Chase credit for his 16' 7" jump shortly before his 17th birthday (May 9) and not 16' 8" that he jumped the day after his birthday. The 16' 7" (5.05m) jump was #2 on world list for 16 yr olds that year... #1 was 5.06m. Correct me if I am wrong but, Jacob's jump would have been a world junior record but his birthday was at the very end of the year. Or so I heard. So he may have an age group record, or maybe not????

Roger, if you read this maybe you can clarify and set us all straight. :D

Jacob turned 20 a couple of weeks after his 19'4 1/4" vault...so his was probably in April. Tarasov has a late December birthday, making his 19'0 1/4" even more remarkable since it was only around 18 & 6 months at the time.

For purposes of selecting Junior Teams, World Youth Teams, Pan-Am Teams and such, it is the entire YEAR which is weighted as the poiunt of consideration. In terms of age records, however, I still think it is only the DATE of performance that is weighted.
