I write all the press releases for my team and nobody gives me any useful feedback. I've never taken any journalism classes, I just BS it the best I can.
Rainbowgirl, which school? I'd love to read your stuff.. do you have a website?
Lindenwood University. Our school's only SID sucked. Bad. So they fired him, but never hired anyone else.
http://www.lindenwoodtrack.com/ is the website I made for my team and where I post my stuff.

cats wrote:Wow, nice work Rainbowgirl.. very impressive. Did you use a program like FrontPage, or do you know HTML?
I use Dreamweaver. I know most of the HTML, but it's easier and faster for me to make most of the page visually, tweaking the code when I need to.
By the way, you say you've never taken any journalism classes, but all your stuff sounds very much like AP stuff, and for the most part adhere's to their style.
There's an AP style?
At my last school I switched to sports communication, and was going to take all those fun classes... but then I transferred at the last minute, and they don't offer sports communication here. I need so many gen eds here, I don't have much space in my schedule for electives.

Rainbowgirl.. you should really look into taking some Journalism classes as electives if you can, especially if you're really into writing. They're really worthwhile.
bjvando.. I definitely recommend getting your hands on an AP Style book if you can ..and then never let go of it. You will use it for all types of things. It has everything in there (there's even a section solely on track), I use it all the time. Eventually, you'll get the stuff so ingrained in your head that you'll become a walking AP Style book.. but that's a good thing!
Hope that helps. Feel free to ask more questions if needed.

I might end up with one elective next year. I had so many gen-eds to take when I transferred, that I haven't had much time for electives in my schedule. I'm too busy taking Literature and history classes
