He coaches at Woodcreek High School in Roseville, CA. He comes out to vault during the summer with us and his form is really fluid (sounds kind of weird, but true). My friend told me that he was out of town, but I didn't know that this was where he was at!

Thats my coach. He started at 11'6 which he clears all the time, he was just having a hard time looking at his left hand and getting into the pit. He would get plenty over the bar, but just land on top of it. He's flippin sweet.

I was interested to note the tie in the M75 category, between long-time masters vault fixture Jerry Donley and Bud Held, 1953 world record holder--in the javelin!

I had the pleasure of participating and watching many of these vaulters do their thing. It is quite a tribute to all of them that they are doing such a difficult sport and having such a good time doing it. The camaradarie that I have experienced has been wonderful. When we are out there, we are all trying to help each other get better, even during the national championships. I'm proud to be among this group.

That's my high school coach (in all the other events except pole vault)!

He won the pentathlon the day before, and competed in a couple other events. He only had one pole there and blew right through it.

I'll coach him up this summer, and get him jumping higher than I do

I think the most newsworthy item about nationals was Gary Hunter NH'ing. That's just about unheard of. His ability to show up late (like when the runner up is jumping at his last height) and clear a pretty challenging height with little warm up is almost legendary amongst us masters dudes, and has cost me national championships at least 3 times.

I hope he's not hurt.
