open meets- chicago

Unread postby patybobady » Tue Feb 22, 2005 10:44 pm

I was curious about open meets in the chicago land area (within an hour or so). does anyone know of any and when/where?

Coaching has forced me to get back on the pole...I have been doing well with just a few 'full vaulting days'. I do all the other stuff and am in decent shape. But I am still 10 pounds light on poles from where I was last spring as a senior in college. Does anyone have some advice on getting back in, or should just doing the 'usual' (sprints, lifting, gymnastics, etc.) suffice? Being a 13'6"ish vaulter in college and now being at 12' the last two vault practices almost 9 months later seems odd...

Any good stories of competing after the whole college thing? Just looking for info...Thanks.
Fight the good fight: It's nice to be great but it's far greater to be nice.

Check out the meets at the Partk district in sterling Il. I recommend these meets as they have 2 sets of pits and a person can get ALL the jumping they want in a day. Also there is ocassional meets in the Quad cities at Auguastana College during the year. Check out the web site www.mastertrack.com for others in the Illinois metro area.

The meets at sterling (www.sterlingparkdistrict.com) are a series of USAFT indoor meets open to everyone most of the time and they also hold some "master" type of competition during the summer and winter months - they also hold some Illinois high school indoor meets during the winter. The meets at Augustana are usually found on the masters track web site. We have attended the Sterling meets and can recommend them, we have NOt attended the Augustana meets as of yet (Injury this year) But plan to try next year.
