as for pet peeves, i would have to go with uninformed officials. i was once at a usatf summer youth meet several years ago(a supposedly big meet in fact) and the official would not let me check my step after my vault and i was once at a d3 national meet where they would not allow this!
also, the meets where they try to make you take two vaults in a row if you miss your first one? only encountered this a couple of times, but i think the reasoning is that it makes less moving of the standards which does not make sense since an efficient official crew can make that not a time factor, and it encourages the vaulter to use practically his whole 60 seconds on the runway on his second attempt.
finally--running through. i am as guilty of this as anyone at times, but i think we can all agree that it is possibly the biggest problem that vaulters face from time to time and when someone does not correct this it is a huge problem. i guess what irks me about running through is when an athlete makes excuses trying to blame something other than himself. again, i have had this problem in the past though, but no longer
