The vaulters at U of Illinois (Champaign) are coached by the Wookie, Bryan Carrel. He works for Gill Athletics (they make Pacer, Carbon FX, Mystic, and Skypoles) so the vaulters there get ANY pole they need.

They also have really nice facilities. They have a really nice indoor track and a nice outdoor track. Oh yeah, Bryan is a half decent coach too :P j/k, he's actually really good. If you stick around in the summer, you can vault on a fast runway in one of the most beautiful backyards ever.

I don't really know much about the other programs. Shana Martin used to vault for Wiconsin - Madison a few years ago and she still has a personal website http://www.shanamartin.com/ so she could probably tell you more about it.

Spencer Chang is the coach there. He made the Vault 2000 DVD. You can buy it on NeoVault.com, TrackCityUSA, or many other sites. If you are looking at the school, I would recommend getting the DVD so you can learn a lot more about him as a coach.

I was there in Oct visiting Spencer. They have a huge pole inventory, a nice pit and track and nice people for coaches. It also doesn't hurt to have a sports medicine doc as your coach.

They only have a womens team though. When I was there last spring they were hosting a meet and it was like there womens team and then some local kids. Must be hard to get teams to travel there becuase of budgets. I thought about jumping when i was there and called ahead. But they didn't have any poles I could use and there standards only went to 5.20m. The track is funny colors but it was mondo and new. There vault runway had a smokin tail wind when I went and checked it out. Nice new pits too.
If someone tries to step on your dreams.... Step on their face.
