Anyone want and come down to train in Knoxville. While most hurricane swells don't make it up the tennesse river to UT, it still is a great place to jump the occasional bar.

Did Bubka and Tarasov both jump 6m in the same year under the soviet union? Or was Tarasov under russia and Bubka under Ukraine?

Definitely after the CCCP.

I believe it was in Tokyo in '99. Bubka (UKR) 6.05, Tarasov (RUS) 6.00

Actually, it was '97. In September of 1997, after he won his last world championship with 6.01 m (19' 8.614") in Athens, Bubka competed against Tarasov in Fukuoka, Japan. Bubka jumped 6.05 m (19' 10.189") to beat Tarasov, who jumped 6.00 m (19' 8.22"), which stands to this day as the record for the highest second-place jump ever in the pole vault.

That's gotta suck to jump 6m and still get beaten. *Sigh* Such is Bubka. The man refused to lose.

Yeah, but the guy lost to the World Record holder. Maxsim was having a good day, and Bubka just happened to have a better day. I would be honored to have gotten second to Bubka.

I know, and I agree. I was partially being tongue-in-cheek. There is no shame in being second to Bubka. Tarasov was awesome; anyone who jumps 19' at age 18 is pretty kick-@$$ in my book.
