There was an East Coast Summit a few years back (maybe '99?). Exactly 9 people showed up.

I agree with CowtownPV. A big reason the turnout is so large is the fact it is in Reno. It's one-stop shopping for a trip...the summit, restaurants, entertainment, etc. are all under one roof. Reno is also a cheap place to fly into because of the casinos. All of this cuts the cost way down for attendees and the convenience of this is huge. I'll bet a lot of parents wouldn't be so willing to drag your butt to the Summit if it was in another location. Convenience is a very big deal.

The only other city that could compete is Vegas, but the cost of transporting dozens of pits/standards/runways a couple hundred miles instead of 15 would probably raise the ticket price to $150.

As rainbowgirl said, maybe with this new facility in charlotte, NC. more options would open up.

I was on the "organizing committee" of a small group that was trying to plan a midwest summit in Indiana a couple of years ago, but it never went anywhere. Maybe we should try to start it up again.......

Habakkuk 3:19
The Sovereign LORD is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to go on the heights.

Although I have never been to the Reno summit...which i am hoping to change with the up comming summit...But I would feel like no matter how long I have been doing something I could always use a fresh look at my event...now because I have never been there I don't know how much the coaches actually do... But you are never to old to learn new tricks that might be the difference between what you are jumping and what you could be jumping.

NW Pole Vault Summit

Here in the NW we have put on a "Summit" Clinic patterned after Reno for the last 3 years. It has grown and prospered. We target the needs of the coaches here so there is always interfesting stuff going on. We have highlighted some of the better local coaches and have had a great time. Clinic on Sat., Elite area vaulters (men vs women) jump Sat night with competitions on Sunday....
This year we will be in the new "Harry Webber Memorial Training Facility" here in Oregon City, Or.
