Unread postby PvaultinGirl » Fri Dec 13, 2002 6:17 pm

wow. not too many recent posts in here so i decided to ask a Q . it's a dumb question allrighty but i'm curiouse here. has anyone ever dragged their pole before? or does anyone drag their pole? i mean like down the runway, at meets not just drills?and the reason it's entitles "buttplug" is because it wears down your buttplug fast. anyone ever seen this before at a meet? and what do you think about it? or  ??

hmm...i wish i knew who that was! i have no idea if it's like him or not. let me try and explain better and then maybe i can get some opps. Ok, i mean like when people are at track meets and they literaly drag their poles (or should i say push?) in front of them down the runways. it's like regulare vaulting only they don't carry their poles down the runway. get what i mean? i think that someone once told me that they do short runs and pop up drills like that. so now can i get some polls and opps? :)

It can be an effective way to vault. More indoors I think where there is less friction on the runway. Most coaches don't know how to teach a full vault like that. I have heard it is (or was?) more popular in Canada.

It seems to me like you wouldn't be able to quite run as fast as normal because one arm is holding the pole and the other is moving.

Tye Harvey vaulted like 18-19 feet like that! He's the only good vaulter I have seen do it though.

I think that the friction of the buttplug slows you down some, but being able to pump your free arm helps.

haha! now i have yet to see someone use their extra arm to pump while running! that puts the funniest picture in my mind! hahaha! well, that's def. one i haven't heard because i ment like running down w/ Both arms on the pole. they do all the same things every other vaulter does, they just don't carry the pole. that's cool to know. so what does everyone think personaly about it? j/w

Oh well yeah if you had both hands on the pole like that you could not get much speed. To do it one handed you just hold the pole with your top hand at your shoulder and swing your free arm like you would when you are running normally. Then you get that bottom arm in there a few steps before takeoff and you can bend the pole and everything.

we do a lot of one-arm swing through drills....though I'm sure many of you do the same..... I see everyone do it at meets. You need to slide the pole down the runway to do this drill. Thats the only time I've ever seen anyone "pushing" the pole down the runway.

To start with call them pole tips..........please!!! Ty was trying that for a while and did not reccomend it. It was a fluke (somthing due to and injury) that he started doing it. I am not knocking it but it does feel very un-natural to run that way.
