Although Chelsea has blossomed this year in the vault doesn't mean that she should have gone. She has been jumping in the 14 foot area consistently, while other vaulers have been constantly jumping 14'6" to 15 foot plus. She certainly proved that she is able to compete with the big names and still hold her own well, she isn't experienced enough to be competing in the Olympics this year. In four years-- at Beiging-- she should have enough exp. to know what to expect. But I just don't think she would have been ready to compete in the Olympics this time around.

Can't wait for 0 8!!

This goes back to the big debate about our trials selecting our team...........good or bad its how its done. Jillian also gained some valuable experience, it was her first trip to the games as well. Shes 25 and will be around for at least 2 more oly games.

Yes I kinda wish CJ would have gotten the experience BUT who would you have left out STACY...................KELLIE................JILLIAN...........I would not have made that call. Clearly we sent our best and luck was not on our/their side.

Its just like derik miles not making it to sydney he said the team was better without him becasue of his lack of international experience, I dont really know but bet chelsea feels the same way.

Of course ill keep the wrist band, and most importantly the promise for 2008! You better hold up your end of the deal, which will probably involve moving your run back to an 8 rather than a 3 or whatever it is you run from! ;)
Mike- pretty sure by next summer your going to owe me another $20, start saving!

And yes i would have love to have made the team, but i wasnt top three on that day. looking forward to 2008

Rick,
I agree, but like I said going into the trials were either gong to Athens or C.R. So what the heck! She ripped Baja (all time best conditions) like CJ, RT had ever seen. So we had fun :) even though it wasn't in Athens.
I was just happy she vaulted so well at the trials. :P :P :P

Trials was great to watch - it sucks someone has to be 4th - but it is what it is - if someone was injuried or didn't make the std it is one thing - otherwise you play by the rules - she is a pup and and tremendous future -

I agree with Decamouse. It was a very close, competitive competition.
Chelsea jumped tough as nails. Additionally considering how tired she was after the college season we were happpy. The future is bright.

ps. Hey DecaM, how do you spell 3 wrap with no spiral?

yeah. its tough to know. on one hand had she gone she might have jumped through the roof. on the other hand, getting the experience at trials will greatly help her throughout her career. So there are always positives to look at. It was a great year for her and im sure next year will get even better because she is just such a hard worker.
