Trouble......but hope

Unread postby Mecham » Fri Jul 23, 2004 11:23 pm

Hey, i know this probably comes up a lot. But im having a lot of trouble with my rock and swing..... Many coaches compliment me on my plant and take off, they say they are gunna see a lot out of me as i get older. I just need some advice, as much as i can. What can i do to work get my swing and rock back. my coach says i can get atleast 3 feet higher if i can get that down. So..maybe a little bit'o 16-17 feet if done right. I just need some advice, workouts, ideas from people who were in my situation.

Thanks

well the swing is a continuation of the run and plant, so maybe those are the areas that you need to work on, even if you dont think so.

i completely agree. Im pretty much in the same situation, iv been told by my plant and takeoff are great, lots of potential, blah blah etc. But iv been learning how important the bottom of your vault really is, and its not as good as you may think yet. iv been training with a 17' vaulter from EMU all summer, and for 3 weeks we didnt work on a single thing in the air, focusing completely on the run, plant, and takeoff. I went from vaulting 12' very inconsistantly, to having some room over 14' and jumping over my grip just by doing run and plant drills. And thats what we continue to work on, now with some gymnastic-type strength drills thrown in, and we work a little bit on the top of the vault, now that im starting to get into position to move up the pole. you can ask anyone on this board, and im sure most will agree that almost any problem in the air can be traced back to the bottom of your vault.
What have you done today to get better?
