you think i'd be vaulting more than 5.10??? i suck, so you should put me in the same category with russ or anyone who jumps higher than 17' even!!!! i'm also 6'5, which is another advantage. how tall are you russ???

i ran lead off at ncaa's this year for our 4x1, we only manages 39.7 though, but i have the fastest time on my team, i'm pretty sure russ had some quick little kids bringing home the stick.

Once you do put your physical ability with a good vault it will be over, and if you are 6'5 you should be able to throw the jave farther. Props to you and nobody is going to touch you the next two years if you stay healthy.

i would imagine that Dmitri Markov is fast since he is under 6 ft tall (i think) and can vault very high (6.05 meters) on poles over 5 meters long.

Riaan Botha was another fast one. Capped a series of 5.35 Nordics. Horrible takeoff though so he only had a PR of 5.91.

Trey, Perhaps you will be like Daniel Ryland. He was a decathlete and when he gave that up to concentrate on vaulting he went from something like 16' 6" to 18' 6" in a short time... from 6 lefts I believe. I don't know if he has backed up yet? You have the tools for both events. It would be awesome to see how high you can vault if you really worked on it alone. But decathlon may be your first love. So best to you whatever route you take.

Oh, by the way, the original post was about the "Fastest Pole Vaulter". Daniel would have to be up there. He holds the 15m on the fly, and with a sled, records at Bell Athletics which has had some incredible vaulters through the door. I don't remember the times though.

i originally went to msu thinking all i was going to do was vault. i found out in september that i was going to start training for the dec. i still pr-ed while only getting to work on vault stuff once a week, i went 5.10 indoors and 5.05 and 5.0 every decathlon, but i only run from 5 lefts, around 73'-75'. speed may seem to be a blessing, but it's hard for me to control at the box, and mentally i have never really ever made myself jump from anything more than 6 lefts. because the speed that get up to by then i impossible for me to handle. hopefully i can fix some stuff before the oly. trials in july.
