HHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMM are we related?!?!?!?! I was thinking the same thing. Everything in the vault moves forward and up. Any time you start talking about dropping or pulling...........well you've just missed the point. I had the same discussion with a young man at my club who wanted to do "lay back" drills, I told him to think about swinging up NOT laying back and he just did not understand the difference...........I guess I have some work to do with him.

I wonder how many people on here agree that in order to jump first you must be a good athlete, secondly you must learn a good run and TAKEOFF. Doest it really matter what you do after that? well maybe a litlle ...

Someone with good speed, strength, eye and hand coordintion, a competitive drive, and a knack for sports. Someone who would make a good decathlete.

OK. . . don't want to insult anyone so take this with a grain of salt. We're talking now about what a good athlete is: this is my take on it. Decathelete's never were very good at any one particular event, so they ended up in the decathelon? Is this true or is there some kind of genetic freak in the Dec that can be competitive professionaly at a specific event, like the pole vault (exception-Tommy Skipper we'll discuss him in a moment) I'm a horrible athlete physically and just became "ok" at this one thing called pole vaulting. . . it wasn't because I was physically gifted I assure you. Tommy Skipper is a what? Pole Vaulter? Dec guy? or both? Someone please answer where his heart is. . . if Tommy did, that would be nice. I think he wants to be a pole vaulter. :D And have you ever seen Nick Hysong play basketball? Well he's no Dennis Rodman, that's for sure. So what is a good athlete? I really don't think that there is a quality definition for it. Pole vaulting is fun. . .sports are fun. . . and that's what it's really all about. If you're here to become one of the "greatest athletes of all time," then start competing in the dec. God bless em.

Wasn't LoJo recruited as a decathlete? Didnt Tim Bright make the trials in the vault as well several times? And wasnt there a time in Bubkas career when he thought about doing the decathlon? Well I guess you dont have to be the greatest athlete in the world to jump 16ft but 19? you have to be a damn good athlete. There are exceptions Dial, Duplantis, etc wouldnt have made great decathletes BUT! they were excellent athletes. I dont know how high you jumped im assuming the 18ft range and if you say your not a good athlete then your bs ing us! Ive never seen Hysong play basketball but Ihave seen were he can run a 10.3 100, and has a standing long jump close to 11ft! I dont know about you but the vault is only fun when you jump high! And in the beginning of your career training for the dec is probably one of the best things to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
