I think if you've done enough dry runs, you'll know if you're on or not. being off by one step would seem really obvioius, wouldn't it?

I count my steps when I vault, but I don't like yell them or anything... my exhale just sounds like numbers lol. I don't know if it's better or worse- just do what you are comfortable with.

I dont mean count them as a way to check your step or # of strides, but more as a method to establish rythym or cadence in the approach.

i always keep count in my head, but not out loud. a guy from another school sounds like hes dry heaving when he says all kinds fo different numbers from checking his stride, then his actual run, and ends with a 'start, curl press!"

I am one of those guys that seems to be yelling at approach, I used to count in my head but my run was slow, when I count out loud I try to count faster to make my legs move faster, it is mental but it helps a lot, at least for me

I don't do it out loud, but yea, I could... the instant I hit 6 I start raising my pole (yea, I count up...not down)

Boogers? LOL Can you post a link to a video of that, I'd love to hear that. :D

I count down my lefts. I start by pulling my right foot through first then count down, picking up the verbal pace and my cadence together,.. 5........4.......3....shift..jump! 2 is shift and 1 is jump. That way you always take off on 1. If you count up and forget how many lefts you are running from you waste a vault. I have seen it happen many times. I don't know if I do it out loud though. :o I really couldn't say, since I'm doing it for me and not everyone else.

EXPERIMENT! Do whatever works for you. A few of my vaulters get all screwed up when they try to count. A few have worked out nagging runway/plant problems by going to it. If you are having runway/plant problems you have to change something, or you'll keep getting the same results.
