Feedback for a beginner

Unread postby ajhw321 » Wed Apr 01, 2015 9:36 pm

this is my second year vaulting. I weigh 102 and am 5'3. I started last year as a junior and jumped 6'6 with a 12'6 140 pole. It was the smallest we had. I now use an 11' 110. We don't have an actual coach, just a dude who sits at practice and makes sure none of us get hurt. At meets, it was just us vaulters.

The first video I'm holding 9'8 from 4 lefts and the bungee is at 7

https://youtu.be/Z64UX2GpKfM

The second video is my attempt at 7'6 holding 9'8 from 4 lefts

I'm really bad at planting, swinging, and getting anywhere near inverted. I'm trying to get 8'6, which is our school record, by my last meet in mid may. I'm not sure if that's possible or not butt... any feedback would make my day and would be much appreciated! :)

Looks good, but swing and pull so u turn, Think run, like run fast and even, jump, as jump tall hands up, swing, as swing to invert w left left elbow inside pole and swing fast, starting pulling for ur life. GL. Alan

https://youtu.be/brGUAkC9aO0 see the bottom arm/elbow position.
Not necessary to swing to invert at this stage and bottom elbow should remain on the outside of the pole until the point at which you are bending and rotating it around your bottom elbow. Swing up over the bungee and turn over (twist neatly) the bungee. As you raise the bungee gradually, over time you will swing to inversion.

This may be the last video that Altius produced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD9ARW1i7HI
If you are a beginner vaulter or a beginner coach, i encourage you to watch this video. If you implement these drills, you will have success... Or you may still buy his and PVstudents book from the PVP store. It presents a structured process to training all levels of pole jumpers. Build the picture of a technical model.
