i just started pole vaulting a week ago and i can do pretty good without the bar being up( about 5.5ft) but when the bar goes up i get really scared because i once hit the bar and it hurt so now i have a fear of it. I have a meet in a few days and to qualify u must get 7.5ft. i don't think i can qualify yet but i want to get at least 6ft. Can someone please help me to face my fear and to get higher. I'd really appreciate it!
Do you try it with a bungee? Perhapt that would help so that you're clearing somethign but you wont get hurt, then form there you could move up to the bar again. Baby Steps!
pole vault is the most complicated event on the field and it doesnt come easy! listen to your coach and dont worry about making bars - worry about putting together a good jump. when the consistent good jumps come, you will consistently make bars! good luck this season!
