Compare?
I was hoping some of you guys could tell me the difference between these two jumps and what i need to really focus on. The vault outdoors was at 15'1.5" and my step was about 3 -6" under, i was on a 15' 175lb. pole. The indoor vault was at 15'4.25" , i was about a foot under and on a 15' 170lb. pole. Any thing you guys see would be appreciated, Thanks

Re: Compare?
The difference I see between the two vaults is indoors you appeared to bring your chest thru your shoulders much better than the outdoors vault. Both vaults look good with decent clearance. But, Id suggest starting to look into larger poles. Technically speaking your head is down making it harder for your chest to break through your shoulders and at the top you stop dropping your shoulders to because you are looking at the bar. Hope this helps and I hope to see you soon Mitch Kalning

Re: Compare?
I have been messing with 15'7" s but i can't get my step far enough out right now to get on them. also my season just ended so i'm going to be trying to do some off season training. I've been trying to look up at take off but im having problems with it, any specific thing to help not looking down at take off and not watching the bar?

Re: Compare?
YEP! If you want help with the step you will need a video of your full approach. Knowing your vault im guessing there is something happening that is throwing you off balance prior to the plant causing your last step to be a much longer stride.
Try starting your plant a bit sooner to help your step.

Re: Compare?
I'm going to be working on my run a lot this summer and i really plan on trying to shorten up the last step, it would make everything so much easier

Go to this blog and look under the Headline "The Shortest Distance Between Two Points is a Straight Line" Read from there down and watch the videos.
The first video you do well with "Moving the Hand in a straight line." The second video being the last three steps of the vault and how the pole should drop you need to work on. This site is a great source and Coach Eric is a reliable source.

Re: Compare?
I was going to, but Chaebo pretty much covered it!
It's hard to see without video of the full run, but your plant looks a little bit rushed. As you get better at planting in time with the feet, your steps will tighten up, and you'll have an easier time putting your step on.
I'd recommend doing lots of slow motion walking drills. Use the girl in the video as an example, since she's close to perfect on it.
Also, are you using DJ's mid mark chart? Is your mid on?

Re: Compare?
I've never used a mid mark, not exactly how it works or if it would be worth it????

Use the chart in this document. Your mid mark should correspond to your grip height. If you're on a 15ft pole, you're probably holding at 14'7", so your mid should be at 49'. Once you dial it in, you might be up to a foot out from the prescribed mid at most, but any farther and you're doing something wrong, like carrying your pole too low or not planting correctly. This is a really great tool for getting the run nailed down and consistent.
