Pole progression

Unread postby Aggietom » Sun Feb 10, 2013 10:50 am

What is the best way to move up poles?

I have a girl gripping the top of a 11' 130. She can go into the pit safely and stay behind the pole from 6 steps. She isn't deep deep, but she is in.

I've always thought you go up 10lbs (11' 140) and once they can repeat the same pit depth, go up to the 11'6" 130 and climb them up grip by grip as they can get safely into the pit.

Is this not right?

If it is....follow up question....I'm at a school that had a terrible pv program. No poles. I've been building inventory, but we don't have an 11'140. So do I put her on a pole with an equal stiffness to the 11'140 and have her grip down to get the additional ten pounds? Pole in question would be a 12'120 gripped down 1 foot. That should be 11' in grip and 20 additional pounds, right? Would that work?

Thanks.

Are the poles all the same brand? Unfortunately on 12'6 and shorter poles, there tends to be more variation between brands, but if she is on an 11'140 and the 12'120 of the same brand, then she ought to be able to get into the pit on it, once you sort out the hand sliding stuff.
